I have a Colt Defender with the Hogue grips and I thought I would try out some Chip McCormick "slim carry" Rosewood grips.  I really like the Hogue grips but this was to be a 40 dollar experiment.  The slim carry grips would thin the pistol out quite a bit.  Apparently I have to change out the screws and the threaded sleeve.  I do not want to damage the sleeve for the original grips and they are in tight.  If I try to forcefully unscrew these sleeves they will break.  The new grips come with their own sleeves.  Anyone run into this?  As I said, this was a 40 dollar experiment so if I can't do it without messing anything up no biggie, but maybe I'm missing something obvious.  Wouldn’t be the first time.

I had a hell of a time when I did mine.

I ended up using vicescripts to get them out.

I didn't scratch or damage the gun.

I love my thin grips and will not go back.

So I'm assuming the stock screw bushings are going to be damaged in removal if I have to go that route.  I guess I could get more from Colt if I decided to go back to the Hogue grips.

Dumb question: counter clockwise rotation right?

Any noticeable change in recoil?  I really have yet to find a pistol that has objectionable recoil but Colt had to put those grips on for a reason.

First make sure the gun is unloaded!... Then:

Heat the frame up with a hairdryer until its warm / hot to the touch then back out the bushings. This solves a lot of headaches.

I can't remember the rotation.

My accuracy improved with the thinner grips.

No objectionable recoil.

The hair dryer idea sounds great.

Thanks for the help guys, when I get some time off I'll try the hair dryer idea.  Actually we have a heat gun at the shop that would work quicker than the wife's hair dryer.
