I recently bought a Charles Daley Compact 1911 and it sometimes holds open the slide with rounds still in the mag. I'm trying to figure out if I'm dealing with a break-in issue, or if I've got a problem. The fella I bought the gun from said he only put about 20 rds through it and put it on his belt, so its still pretty new.

Have you tried using at least 3 other mags from at least 1-2 other manufacturers? I believe one must test on a variety of mags before posting for best results. perhaps 1/2 of the malf posts we have here would never have been posted if this was done first.

Thanks, but if everyone thought like you, there wouldnt be half as much to talk about. I'll get some mags, But I was more wondering if this was a common break-in issue.

I wouldn't think that early slide lock was a breakin issue. Probably mag related.

Could be that the slide stop needs to be filed down a bit.  The rounds coming up might be hitting it and engaging the slide stop.  That definitely is not a break-in issue.  Or at least, not one that I've ever heard of.

I tend to see it as, "if everyone was like me we would have more time to talk about other things other than the 31 flavors that come up over and over".

Nevertheless, it is not a common break in issue. Try the mags and let us know if that doesn't work.

I had a SA Champion that would do this. The inside of the slide stop would catch on the nose of the bullet, locking the GD slide back..............

Mags had nothing to do with this problem.

After two trips to the 'smith, I traded it off................

This is not a break-in issue, this is a Charles Daly/ArmsCorps issue. Get your hands on a set of (or the flat one) Jewelers files. and little by little file down the inside of the slide stop. Consider yourself lucky that this is the only problem you have with a CD.

CD mags are generally shit IME.

I have posted this before.

CD mags are generally shit.

I beat the ones I had with a hammer and threw them away so I would stop being tempted to give them "one more try".  YMMV

Mine came with a MecGar mag. The issues I had with the gun were unrelated to the mag.
