I just picked up my first 1911 on Tuesday, a Springfield TRP Operator.  I shot it on Wednesday and I noticed something while cleaning it afterwards, the pin located at the pivot point for the adjustable rear sight walked out to the right about 1/8".  Should I just drift it back lightly with a punch?  Heres some pics of the pin: (please excuse poor quality)

Other than this minor issue, its the best handgun I've ever shot, ridiculously accurate, light recoil, yada yada.  I cant believe I spent so much time with other stuff before sipping the 1911 koolaid.  Any input is appreciated.

Call Springfield monday and talk to a gunsmith. Either they will send you a new pin or you gotta send it in to get looked at. In that case I would send the whole gun in as same thing happened to my buddy and he sent in just the slide but when it came back it wasnt as accurate as before because it wasnt sighted in like before.

Apply a little pressure with your finger to the sight and see if you can slip the pin back in.  You may need to get a stiffer spring under the sight so that it exerts more tension on the pin.

I am not sure what type of rear sight that is, but it is possible that if the elevation screw has been screwed all the way in and tightened, it could have collapsed the spring.  Removing the screw should allow the rear sight to swing away from the slide, reveling a small coil spring.  Try lengthening the spring just a bit for more tension (not a good practice for the most part, but in this case it should be OK).

Just did it while pressing on the sight to relieve some spring pressure.  But it will probably walk out again.  I'll call Springfield on monday as suggested.  Thanks for the replies

The sight pin on my STI Edge did that a couple of times. Push it in and it would walk right back out after a couple hundred rounds. The next time it comes out just apply a little blue locktite about 1/4" from the end and tap it back in and let dry. 1500rds later and mine still hasn't come back out.
