I'm looking for a 4-4.25" 1911 for carry...I need something 100% reliable and accurate. I'm really stuck on a Nighthawk Talon II with Recon Rail...with my specifications it'll be just under $2500.

Is there anything else I should be considering? Something that I will be happy with and will perform just as good as the Nighthawk? Ever since I shot a Nighthawk Talon I've been hooked! I haven't shot many other 1911s...

They are great guns.

Consider the bobtail option for a concealed carry gun.

Wilsons, Browns, and possibly Baers are on par with Nighthawk. When you're at this level it all comes down to personal taste.

You can also consider a platform on a custom outfit like sending a Colt Commander into Yost.

I thought about sending a Commander to Yost...but I wouldn't be happy unless I bought a brand new gun...and it seems like it could me more expensive than a brand new gun!

I would MUCH rather have a Yost build over a Nighthawk, Baer etc etc...

Those are all great guns, dont get me wrong BUT they are NOT customs.
They are Semi Customs.  You can't compare them to the work you get
from someone like Yost or the other custom smiths out there.

Nighthawk, Baer etc are MILES above your Kimbers, S/A and even out of the box
Colts but Yost and Smiths like him are MILES AND MILES above Nighthawk, Baer, Wilson
etc.

There is a reason a true custom costs so much more than a semi custom....
Why else do you think it costs so much more and why else would they have
such long wait lists?

Whatever choice you make you can't go wrong.

In the $2500 range, I'd go with a Yost.

Have you considered a Dan Wesson Commander Classic Bobtail? You could get one for less than $900.00 and not have to worry about Series 80 anything or MIM parts. The .45s (I have heard some guys bitch about the 10MM) are pretty sweet right out of the box.

Id say get a Dan Wesson from before they were bought out by CZ IF you are going to go that route.
I havent heard any complaints about the CZ guns but I havent heard any great reviews either.  Lots of people were very happy with the older Dan Wesson guns.

BUT a Dan Wesson cant compare to a Nighthawk or any semi custom let alone a true custom like
Yost or the others...

Still Yost is the BEST bet of all, after that go through the other real custom smiths then go to semi custom like nighthawk and baer...  then you go to things like Dan Wesson.  Dan Wesson is the best choice of a regular shop IF you want the bob tail other than that Id do a Springfield Armory before Dan Wesson

Nighthawk builds semi-custom packages in that you can purchase a Talon, GRP etc with thier basic features or + options.

Nighthawk will also build you a Custom 1911 allowing you to add / subtract or combine features as well as request non cataloged work.

I have seen several CUSTOM Nighthawks, happens they are both bobtailed Talon IIs

$2500 seems like a lot of money for a 1911, untill you own a $2500 1911 that was built to your exact order with everything you want and nothing that you don't.

A Yost built Commander would be a highly prized possesion as well . . .

Which ever way you go I can almost promise that it won't be your last high end 1911

I guess I'm not 100% certain what I want in a 1911, as I haven't shot one extensively. I rented a Nighthawk at the range and fell in love with it!

If you allow yourself to shoot a 1911 a lot you will be hooked.. just a friendly warning

I'm already hooked. The Nighthawk Talon was the nicest pistol I've shot....and I've shot a TON of pistols. :)
