I've been looking at a few 1911's.I've shot a couple of the polymer brands like the Ruger P345 and SFXD both in 45.The polymer models feel springy or snapping in the hand.I guess do to the lite weight. And thats why I'm intrested in the metal framed 1911's.Not to mention they just feel like a real gun in your hand.I've been looking at Kimber,Springfield and Taurus 1911's.Not wanting to spend more than $700.00 if I can keep from it.Can you guys list the pros and cons of some of the models by some of the manufacturers listed.Or any good recommendations I should check out.

I just purchased a S&W1911 last week for $799.00. I am very happy with it,  shoots great. I also looked at three SA a couple kimbers, and a para, I felt for the money the S&W was the best choice IMO.

Just listing my recent experience with 1911's here, bought a used Springfield GI through the boards ran  200 or so rounds down through it, sold it through the boards and I believe the guy still has it. Got a used Colt government model shot about 500 rounds through it, one mag was $7 GI junk when I got it got rid of it and gun handled fine before doctors bills caught up with me. Picked up a springfield loaded 2 years back, gun was iffy until I cleaned it after first box, runs like a champ today.Kimber bp10-II most accurate gun out of the box I've ever owned also third most troublesome, it ended up being to strong a mag spring, switched the 13 rounders  out with their 10 rounders and gun shoots quite well, I will also say don't use any steel cased ammo with it, failures to eject or stovepipe on me damn near everytime. The Auto Ordnance 1911, gun spent more time with AO than it did with me,4 trips to the factory. I believe I sucessfully made it to 70 rounds and sold it at a loss. Norinco 1911, that gun shot every piece of junk I put in it, you won't see it any accuracy contest in stock configuration though, then talked myself into the AO and traded it in.

I have a SA 1911 "loaded" and love it.  No problems Out of the box!!  Stay away from the "cheap" GI's and stick to Colt, SA, Kimber, Para IMO

$499 could buy you this, leaves you with $200 for ammo. This has been a great gun so far, very acurate and reliable.

Oh Yes.I do like the Tauras 1911 also.Have heard some good things about them as well.Problem is no dealers around here seem to have any in stock. And a couple of dealers told me they woud'nt have any until May.I guess theres no real hurry on buying one. After all I do need to recover from buying a new Stag AR.Thanks for your comments guys.

Those are not 1911's.

Just because it shoots .45acp, does not mean it is a 1911.

Kimber is a great introductory 1911.  Well built and priced right.  The Custom II is an excellent choice.

The PT1911 has a forged frame and slide, good trigger out of the box, reliable, accurate, Heinie straight eight sights, checkered front and back strap, and checkered under trigger guard. Priced less than $550.  That's the PROs.

The only thing I can find for a CON is the finish, and it's not THAT bad.  And maybe the MIM parts, what do you want for less than $550 !!!

Over a thousand rounds thru mine with no malfunctions.
