Guess this has been asked a zillion times . . . but,

Can someone give me some links to some USGI 1911 magazine sources. I want the real deal authentic ones.

Thanks!

As in WW 1/2 manufacturers or later ones? Is there a particular maker you are interested in?

I've got a WW 1 1917, but am only looking for some decent shooter mags. I'd prefer USGI because of the $$$ and they have always worked for 100 years!

I don't care if they are 1970s made as long as they are reliable.

Thanks

Checkmate is supposedly going make some real USGI mags with tapered feed lips... something like $10-12 a pop.

Ammo Man advertises USGI 7-round 1911 magazines @10 for $79.  Scroll down to the bottom of the 45ACP page.  Here's the link:

Checkmate is the way to go if you want USGI mags (CMC Powermags are only $16 from Midway ya know...)

Hey, thanks for the great info . . .  Checkmates sound the way to go for me and my budget.

Next question, who sells them new and are not rejects? I'd like to get the ones made from '84 to '92, the Checkmate USGI IM291

All Checkmates will have 1M291 on it as that is their CAGE code. As far as I know, all the Checkmates are fine. These are still being manufactured by Checkmate and the prices range from $5~$10. Their mil contract price was $3.49 per mag which we too could get if we bought 132K in one order. :)

CAGE code 30745 are Mason-Rust magazines. You can tell the "bad ones" by looking that witness holes. You'll see that they're not aligned properly and the holes are not all the same diameter or the holes are larger than mil-spec. From my understanding, these were mil rejects so the company offloaded them onto the commercial market (thanks!). I've also heard that there are Chinese knock offs with the same numbers on the floorplate. Either way, if the witness holes aren't aligned and the same diameter, I would skip them. Also, look out for these same mags but marked "COLT .45" on the floorplate. Apparently, they also tried this tactic....you see these at gunshows...here's a photo...milspec WWII USGI on right, POS on left...

Here are some proper USGI packaging photos from different eras. The first one is the more recent (dated '92)...as you can see, quite different from what Ammoman is peddling.

I emailed Jensen and their mags are UNMARKED so that kinda makes me wonder. I believe you can order direct from CheckMate Industries (don't be lazy and ask for a link, Google it yourself folks)
