I need your help. I have been out of the 1911's since the late 80's. Which manufacturer do I get my new baby from? I would like a few things though:

 1- accuracy
 2- dependability
 3- stainless or bitone
 4- under a thousand $

Mostly used for targets, some carry, and SHTF.

 Thanks,
 Kara

THIS ONE!!!  =====> Colt XSE Stainless

FIXED IT!

Seriously, in that price range, the COLT XSE Stainless will offer a LOT of gun for the money.  Then you don't have issues with MIM parts, either IIRC.

The Kimber & Springfield are nice & all, but they're not a Colt.

Personally, I don't have the same monetary budget you do, so I'm probably going to wind up with a Springfield, or MAYBE a Colt 1991 SS.

SS Colt XSE
Kimber SS Custom---if you change your mind about the SS part look at the Warrior.

Uh, JMB's gun had a flat MSH.  The arch was added later by the army.

The 1911 did, correct. The 1911A1 did have the refinements added. It was also in blued steel too............

Thanks for your info guys.
1- The Detonics look nice but I think they are out of my league.
2- I think I may change from stainless.
3- I have narrowed it down (I think) to the springfield armory loaded mc  operator in armorykote bi tone. Or the Kimber tle/rlII .
What is the best one? Why?  Also can anybody tell me if the front strap of th SA is checkered?

I would prefer the Springfield as it has no firing pin block.

+1

The problem with the Detonics is also that they're PURPOSELY running them on dead springs.  THERE IS NO SPRING that can last 5000+ rounds without sustaining any reduction in wear.  They're just pushing the gun to the limits of the springs & frame.  YES, there are actually MANY springs out there that will still run fine after 8000+ rounds fired through it.  The gun WILL still cycle & fire properly, but the spring WILL be wearing down and the frame WILL be taking a harder hit as the round count progresses.  The fact that Detonics tests their guns like this IS a good reassurance, and certainly good marketing tact.  Does that justify their prices though?  Not IMHO.

I also highly suggest the Springfield due to the lack of firing pin safety.  Then you don't have to deal with a sloppy/mushy trigger with too much 'uptake' before it breaks as you don't have to actuate a firing pin safety with the trigger pull like on a S80 Colt.  There's no special tools needed to disassemble a Springfield government style 1911, they're accurate, their triggers can be honed into one of the BEST around, and they're reliable.
