Just wondering if anybody carries a full size 1911 day to day>

Yep. Most of the year.  In the truly hot months I carry a 2" .38.  During those months a compact 1911 wouldn't get carried either.

Yup.   Springfield Champion Loaded.   I carry it all but the hottest days, then I carry a Beretta Tomcat in a pocket holster.

A 1911 is easy to conceal because of it's thinness.   Most of the time I forget its there.

I thought the Champion was a commander size gun, is this not the case?

I'm more of a Glock guy, but I have carried my 1911. The thin grip makes it easy to conceal. Not sure about concealing a full size in AL, though I think Lumpy carries one all the time in AZ or whereever the hell he is.

Since you have a mixed bag of responses...

I carry a 4" CQB Compact always including the hottest days. I wouldn't be averse to carrying a full size except for the fact that the shorter barrel has spoiled me in cases of restaurant booths and wooden chairs.

I carry a 5" Springfield Loaded or a 4.25" Les Baer daily.  I use the same holster (VM II) for both.

I'm in SC, and it's pretty damn hot/humid here....no problems hiding it with a t-shirt, but I always wear an undershirt to keep my delicate skin from getting chafed and my expensive pistols from getting all sweaty.

I carry a 5" SA mil-spec that I have had some work done on it.  I carry it all the time and it does get pretty hot here in the summer of VA.  I ride a motorcycle in the summer alot and it is easy to conceal with a leather vest I wear it in a shoulder holster.  When not on the bike i carry it with and IWB holster and a T-shirt over it. When it is cooler I carry on a high noon holster with a jacket.

I am looking at replacing my 9mm CCW with a .45 - thinking about a 1911 compact but have heard they are unreliable. Anyone have problems with theirs??

a quality IWB holster.  It protects the finish of the pistol while covering the trigger and safety, and keeps the gun from shifting out of position.

The Mexican Bandit carry method is not for me.

IWB or Fubus depending on weather and clothing.

Carry my 5 inch Springfield Loaded or my Operator every day in a Sparks VM2. I live in sunny (rainy?) Florida. Humidity? The Gulf of Mexico is about 3 miles that way ----->

I carry a customized Springfield Armory, Inc Mil-Spec 1911A1 .45 ACP every day. I use a Blackhawk CQC leather IWB holster and a Fobus Paddle for magazines, of which I carry two extra Wilson 47Ds.

I have looked at those holsters and before I buy one I just have a couple questions
1. How much does it bulge/ is it noticeable?
2. How uncomfortable is it to walk around or sit down?
3. Which matteral is better for a IWB holster leather or nylon?

Full size 1991 in a Brommeland Max Con V IWB holster with mag and flashlight on the off side for counterweight.  I carry it both summer and winter.  I find it more comfortable than carrying my S&W 2" J frame in the pocket of my coat.  (I've got to get a good holster for that thing.)

1: I doubt anyone has ever noticed me carrying.  There is a slight bulge at the very base of the grip when I bend forward, so I squat instead of bending.  The bulge could just be a cell phone so I don't think any one would ever think "GUN!!".

2: Walking is very comfortable considering the belt is carrying 4 extra pounds.  Sitting is no problem although accasionally I find a chair that hits the gun just wrong.  If I'm driving more than 3/4 of an hour I'll pull the holster off, but for context I also take my wallet out of my pocket on long drives too.

3:  I prefer leather because a properly fitted leather holster requires no retention strap.  The gun just snaps into place.  I dont think nylon can be molded this way.  I don't like kydex because I'm old fashioned and I have this belief that it is harder on my guns finish than leather, weather true or not.

Buy a Milt Sparks versa max II. Hands down the best holster out there. They are, sometimes, difficult to find in stock and are somewhat expensive.

Often, but not always.
If I am wearing a suit or sport coat, I can wear a GM.  With just an untucked shirt, I'll go to a gun with a shorter handle.

When I am not working....I am packing.  I carry a full size 1911 or a full size 9 mil Browning HP.

The key to carrying these is a good leather and a GREAT belt.  Not to mention having a bit of sotening done on the edges of your carry piece.
