I was at Gander Mtn today - put two 45s on hold - which is best way to go.

$359 for very lightly used GI version - I would be surprise if more than 2 boxes have gone through it.

$249 for very used Sistema - heavy trigger - easy to fix - I read the Sistema string further down the page - so I know it is likely a good gun

Thanks

I'd go with the Sistema myself, but...I'm a sucker for 1911's made like they were.

The Sistema would take more time to get into fighting shape, that's a fact. If you're competent in the ways of working on 1911's it'd make a great project. The Springfield would probably run pretty well right out of the box. The Sistema...probably needing extractor work and if it's as hacked up as one of the examples I saw, a new sear... (one of the Sistemas I have here, the sear is literally cut like this \ ...the top of the sear is at an angle almost as extreme as that. it looks more like a spike than a sear.)

Oh, and the Sistema would probably hammerbite you pretty badly; the Springer, probably won't.

Yes, I'm a sucker for basket cases

Th SA gets my vote, although it would be hard for me to let the price difference sway my choice.

Hands down.

All 1911 aftermarket and/or OEM parts will fit right in. Not so on the Sistema.

are you sure you are not accidentally confusing the Sistema with another .45 of Argentine origin? Possibly a Balister Molina?

I am not saying the SA is a bad choice, however I do believe the Sistema Colt is a 100% licensed Colt 1911A1. All 1911A1 parts would fit the Argentine Colt Sistema.

The Ballester Molina is another .45 that was made in Argentina, and many of the parts from those pistols do not interchange with a 1911.

(I am not sure how to spell Balister Molina-something like that)

Went with the Sistema - $249 out the door.  Most of the finish is gone - but otherwise in really good shape.  I have stripped it down - needs new grip - they are crack.

They have 9 of them in the back - all were much rougher than the one I took - glad I asked to see them all.

Made in 1952

The springfield is still for sale - Gander Mtn on 94 in Woodbury - $359

Thanks

Smitty

was it your left grip or right grip that was cracked? I could use a right half original Sistema grip, doesn't matter if it has wear.

congrats on the Sistema, it sounded like you had a couple of good choices there

Well I finally finished it.  Sandblasted, replaced all springs, polished the throat.  For finish I used a hot water bluing method that I have found to hold up quite well.  Grips are cheap plastic GI.  Fun project.

"Sandblasted,"

That puts the matte in matte blue.

play sand and 60 psi is quite easy on the surface - pretty much takes the old finish off.  this surface works best with the hot water bluing method I use.

Looks a lot better than mine at the moment.

I would like to see a pic in natural light. The flash really puts a harsh edge on things.

What's with all the Sistemas all of a sudden? I really want one of those things.

If you want one, you'd best start calling your local Gander Mountain stores and see if they have any in stock.  Lipsey's is already sold out and the ones in Gander Mountain are going fast.

I bought one yesterday and they only had three in stock (now two) at the time.  They had a guy come in last week and buy eight of them.

Basically, posting the deal on here was like chumming shark-infested waters....

Very accurate.

Personally I am glad that it was posted or I would have missed out and the more I mess with this pistol the better I like it.
