I'm to the step of putting the slide stop back on.  The thumb safety plunger is in the way.  I've already put 2-3 slight scratches on the slide trying to get it back in.  Do you just force it or is there a trick to geting it back in?  Springfield loaded model.

Okay, I searched and found a tutorial.  I had a panic moment.  Its back together, so now, anyone know if I can buff out the scratches?  Thanks.

Dont worry about the scratches.

Cold blue and flitz might work, but I would just leave them. This way next time you will rember how not to do it.

My fave scratch on the 1911 is the half circle from the slide release.

Once it is scratched, it is scratched. Now, U are stuck if its scratched already...

But, I read a trick last week on another forum -- scotch tape. Put it on the frame where it would scratch. But the name brand scotch tape that pulls back up w/o ripping...

www.m1911.org is all I will say follow the links at the board for reassembly. They have a guy on there called 1911 tuner who has saved me countless dollars if asking about customizations to my piece. If you want to know the inner workings and complete breakdown get the 1911 video by agi (the basic one) I went from over 1 hour for cleaning to less than 30 minutes because of it and it's easier to follow than a porn film.
