Hey guys, Seems to be the general conclusion that the Wilson 47D are the best 1911 mags but I have a few questions. Why the "D"'s What's wrong with the other versions? Does the 47D's install flush in a government frame? Is this the correct Brownell's part # for the 47D? 965-047-480 Thanks |

I'm no longer involved in any competitive shooting so my trips are fewer these days with alot less rounds fired but in the last several years of daily carry I've never had a Wilson mag fail. I've got a few with followers that look like they could use replacement and one with a baseplate that you can push off with solid thumb pressure ( not pushing the detent ) but they all still run fine. I'll be replacing the basepad but other than that they've been solid performers. I've got at least 10 of the Wilson's sitting around now. I've never tried the CMC or tripp. I may have to check into them. Do you know if the CMCs use the shooting star split follower? I dont care for that particular follower and have noticed that sometimes it wont lock the slide open on my Commander. I've also experienced some trouble when using the Wilson mags fully topped up in my Commander when trying to chamber the top round. ( setting the gun up with 8+1) If setting up by closing the slide on a loaded mag and running it with 8 total they run perfectly. No problems at all out of either of my government models. I always run them 8+1. |
ooops, my fault ![]() wish i was a dealer |

I went with the Wilson mags for the plastic follower and got just the followers to install in the Kimber mags. The problem is the metal followers on the last round is being pushed into the feed ramp causing nicks. I read this on another sight and checked my ramp and it did have a very small mark; now I don’t worry and have had no failures and the followers will allow one more round in the mag. |

I have tried virtually every mag that is available. I have been carrying a 1911 now for about 5 years. With my first (Colt Commander), I always had good luck with CM mags. I found after awhile, when the gun is more worn with age, that FTF increase with CM. I thought that maybe it was the aged mags. Some of which have been loaded for the majority of their life. I bought new CM mags and had the same issues. I switched to Wilson 47D with 100% feed results. I changed out the springs and followers of the CM with the 47D conversion kits and now they too give 100% reliability. The CM that I used include the "power mags" and the "shooting star". Save yourself the time and money and buy Wilson Combat up front. ETA: Most of the FTF I have are from my Commanders. The shorter ones tend to be more finicky. Since I own and shoot several 1911s to cut costs, a mag that doesn't shoot well in one of my guns is immediately replaced. I like interchangeability. |
