So I have decided to buy a new 1911 my choices are Kimber Anniversary $875 Nice gun Colt WWI Replica $925 ("used" but has never been fired or slide racked) Nice gun i would never shoot Kimber RCP $925 Nice little carry gun so my commander light weight can be sent off or Send off a Colt Commander Light Weight or Kimber Warrior for a little custom work? I need a custom Yost-Bonitz 1 elite. I still need a custom. Any advice i am leaning towards the Colt Its a nice gun but i may not shoot it. If i buy the Colt I am violating my "A gun is a tool and meant to be used often" rule. |

I don't quite follow what you are asking here, but I do know that before i would buy either the Kimber Anniversary OR the Colt 1911 repro for a shooter, I would pick up either a stock Springfield GI ($400 or so) or a Colt Series 70 repro ($850 or thereabouts) and have it worked over a little. (Actually I would get another Springfield TRP but that is a different topic) I simply do not trust the ultra small 1911s in .45 as I have seen several that did not work reliably enough to suit me. Even if they do work, they are right on the ragged edge of useability (dunno if that is a word or not). Try a quick "tap-rack-go" drill using live rounds (live ejection) with one sometime and see what you get. All that stands between you and your custom is some money and time...pick a smith, send it and wait. |
| The Colt Repro is a sweet pistol, I have one and will never sell it. The Anniversary is a better "shooter", the Colt is a collector that will get shot. I just sold an Anniversary model to get a railed 1911. That is an decent price on the Repro, they can be found for about that new. The Kimber is too high, they can be found (still NIB) for less than $800, I sold my near new one for $700. I agree with the SA GI, shoot it for a while and then send it to Ted for the 1* package. |
