I was at the gun shop last night and saw a 1911 single stack in the case. It was about 2 feet long, all steel, with holes throughout the side of the mag from top to bottom. It was definitely a 1911 mag and when I asked how many rounds it was, the guy said he thought it was 50. I did not notice a manufacturer stamp or any other signs of where it came from, nor did I see any weld lines, it appeared to be smooth the whole length and made of a singe piece of steel. The one thing that I did notice was the price 150!! Any idea where it came from, or if it is some rare collectable only made for Navy Seals during WWI by JMB himself in his garage? |
| I've seen a pic either once or twice in a book on D-Day and recall seeing a huge 1911 mag in a spread of Gear on a blanket. You know how they do. I don't know if it was as long as the one you mention but I've definitely seen big ones. And I'm mean alot bigger than a 10 rounder. I thought it to be impractical but nevertheless, I think they were carried. I was thinking more like 30 rounds. |
You are thinking of WWI. Yes it was a longer magazine as well as birdcage brass catcher so your casings didn't end up knocking your own plane out of action! Such a magazine would command a collectors price, however without a great deal of knowledge it would be easy to be taken in by a reproduction… Would you buy the Hope diamond from a street vendor? How about a nice Rolex? |
