What do you think?

Looks good to me.

The real question is how does it perform.

As for performance, it is an RRA...

do you find the bobtail is worth it?  helping in concealment.  i was thinking of getting a sa champion and bobbing it.

Seems like you either love em or hate em.  I have a bobtailed Brown and I find it does keep the pistol from printing when I am wearing a t-shirt or other light shirt and carrying IWB.  I also feel that the bobtail feels nice in my hand, but others would disagree.  I have RRA 30lpi checker the mainspring housing, and I like it better than my Brown's smooth MSH.

I considered trading my S&W 1911PD for a commander-sized scandium framed version so I could do what you are considering, but my govt model is so reliable that I am reluctant to take a chance with a trade.

Another pistol I have had my eye on is a bobtail Dan Wesson in 10mm.

I have a Dan Wesson CBOB (Bobtail Commander) and I like it so well that it is my full time carry gun. It does make it much easier to conceal.

Now I just need some grips for it.  Any suggestions?  I like ultra slims and I like the idea of real elephant ivory, but I don't know if it will give me enough traction...

I think you should send it to me for a full test and review.

That's what I think.

As sweet as it would look, depending on your environment and how you care for it, ivory can be very fickle.  You'd be better off with some of the new synthetic ivory for carry and maybe real stuff just for looks.

Those are nice!  I was considering going with something like that or maybe some G10 Gunners...

Very cool - I love bobtailed commanders.

Did you order it or find somebody with it in stock? If you ordered it, what was the turn around time and would you mind giving me a ballpark price?

Thanks

The barrel's too short.

Heres the first one they ever did.

I think bobtail 1911s are funky, but as a one-time RRA 1911 owner I can say that it's no doubt a wonderful gun.

I ordered it and it took less than a year but more than 6 months.

That's what I think as well. I'd like to try a bobtail, but I still want a full-length barrel.

Cleaned/lubed it yesterday and took it to the range today.  I put a bunch of mags of Remington UMC ball ammo through it without incident.  I used WC 47Ds, CMC Powermags, Novaks, MecGars, and Metalforms.  This thing is a tack driver and 100% reliable!
