Anyone here have one? How do you like it? Reliability out of the box? A local dealer has one for a decent price, and it is calling me..........give me some feedback

I have one in stainless.  Total reliability out of the box and accurate.  My only complaint is the two peice guide rod consistently loosens a bit every time I shoot it.  Thinking of switching to the GI plug setup.

Otherwise it's a great deal for the $$ IMO.

I have two. I love both, and would happily buy another. IN fact, I'm thinking I need one in stainless.

Lemme get my flamesuit on......

Okay, this is "the Bitch":

It was a Springie Loaded I purchased about four years ago....maybe a bit more.  From the get go it NEVER ran worth a shit.

Within the first ten rounds the "overtravel" screw in the trigger screwed itself into the trigger to the point of rendering the gun inoperable.  Issue traced and fixed.

Within the first fifty rounds the gun began to fail to extract rounds and jam them solidly into the front of the ejection port...alternately it would rip an empty from the chamber and drag it in between the feed lips of the magazine.  Thinking this was a "mag issue" I tried several...and ruined them.  At the time I figured this must be some problem that Springfield should fix so I sent it to them.  It came back WORSE.  I sent it back...along with the mags that they initially declined to replace.  By the time I was done posting about this all over the internet and writing letters to management at SA, they finally decided to replace all of my Wilson and Chippie M Power Mags that were ruined. Sadly,   it came back the same.  Finally I just went out and bought a new extractor and fitted it to the gin and tuned it.  Problem solved.  Thanks for nothing, Springfield.

During the next test shoots I was finally able to determine that the weapon shot consisitantly four inches low at ten yards.  It suddenly also begain shifting the groups to the right during one string....that's when I noticed the rear sight had JUMPED nearly off of the slide.    Upon the reccommendation of a friend I installed a Novak Officer's Model rear sight.  That sight fit VERY well and cured both the low shooting and the loose fit of the original rear site.

During the next shooting session, after a quick zero, all was going well when the gun suddenly locked up tighter than a drum, the hammer wouldn't fall, I couldn't get the magazine from the weapon, etc.  After nearly destrying the magazine I was able to rip it out of the gun and clear the chamber.  Disassembly of the piece showed that the HAMMER STRUT HAD SNAPPED IN TWO.

Replaced that.

After ANOTHER FEW SESSIONS it became apparent that the dustcover of the frame had not been sufficiently releived during machining and the frame was bearing on the dustcover of the slide.  In the pics you can see the wear marks.  Off to the mill.

Finally, I got the weapon to work and work consistently.  For safety's sake I gutted the wepon and replaced nearly ALL of the internals with Wilson, Ed brown, Colt and Smith and Alexander components and then fitted them to the weapon.  Still not satisfied with the mediocre accuracy I replaced the barrel with a Colt barrel and a new bushing to boot.

It took nearly SIX MONTHS to get that piece of shit running.  after a 3,000 round test over the period of at least two MORE months, if not more, I sold it!  It ended up to be a GREAT running piece...but NONE OF THAT was due to ANYTHING on the part of Springfield Armory.  Springfields may LOOK like they are made of High Dollar parts and they may APPEAR to be a "great deal" but be forewarned: you could go through the very same experience.

Original price: 678 dollars.

Additional funds spent to get the gun running again: about $500 dollars.

TOTAL PRICE: $1178 bucks.

Do youself a favor: either get a factory Colt series 70 NRM  OR order a custom gun from Ted Yost or Chuck Rogers.  Save youself my pain.

i've had 2--a SS Loaded full size and and a Champion

both have ran great--i still have the full size, and its shot almost all kinds of ammo reliably; the only exception was a couple w/ some weak mag springs in CMCs and wolf ammo (over 700rnds through it)

the champ also ran great--no malfunctions, buti only put about 150rnds through it before i traded it off

i'd get either one of em again

Gonna give this an old school tag...

I have an older SS Loaded inbound and am a little anxious as this is my first 1911.

Cyclone, you mind if I ask what model you are interested in and how much it is going for? I recently posted a price check on one but no one has responded. I am interested in a SS model.

From what I've heard they seem to be the "most bang for your buck."

i picked mine up a couple of months ago. it is px9151l stainless 5" loaded. out the door was $700. i have about 700 rounds through her. the only thing that i want to change is the ILS. the trigger is also pretty heavy, do not have a gauge but is heavier than most 1911's  i have shot. i am very pleased with mine.

Gee, hadn't heard that story before

I have a couple Springers which have been outstanding. My main shooter, a loaded, has upwards of 9-10K through it now. The only part that needed replacing was the extractor after about 3000 rds, and regular replacing of recoil springs. Most of my 1911 shooting friends have Springers which have also been outstanding. ONE friend had a NIB Springer which shot a bit low, so SA replaced the front sight to regulate point of aim under warranty.

I'd say Desertmoon's experience is not the norm. The loaded Spinger is a best buy in its price point.

Bought a loaded fullsize stainless several years ago. It had had no issues and is extremely accurate and I'm talking freaky accurate. This was right after Springfield shifted alot of the manufacturing process to Brazil. This is the one that I will not part with.

Had a MilSpec and shot the crap out of it.  Fitted some extras into it and shot it some more.  NO MALFUNCTIONS EVER.  Wanted some more goodies but it would be cost effective to sell and get a Loaded, which I did.  The Loaded is the parkerized gun and I put $300 rounds down it so far with no problems and it is very accurate..  Yeah the whole MiM parts thing is an issue but you can swap that stuff out.  I put a Wilson Bulletproof slide stop on it and will eventually chnage out most of the other stuff as I go.  When I come back from deployment I am thinking of getting another milspec and haveing Wilson Combat spruce it all up..

I just got one last week and only have 1 problem. My rear sight is not in line with the slide and it causes the gun to shoot an inch left at 10 yards. It's so subtle I didn't notice when I bought the gun and took me several hundred rounds to finally discover the problem. I called Springfield and they are fixing it and reimbursing me the cost of shipping it to them. As long as I adjust my point of aim it's dead on. Very consistent and shoots well. No other complaints. I'd buy another one.

Its the loaded model, parkerized with the reddish grips, like this one

I found a local dealer who has one for 738.95, but I might shop around a bit more to see if there are any better prices

I bought one like that this past Feburary for $689 from a local dealer.  You may try to see if they will come down a little, of course it could be that they have just gone up that much in the past 8 months do to increased material/shipping cost, or maybe thats just what the going rate for them in your area is as opposed to mine...

my Springy Loaded (same park'd full size you're looking at)  has been pretty good to me.  I wasn't happy with the trigger, so I replaced the hammer, sear, disconnect and trigger with YoBo and Dlask.  I did have a minor problem with the extractor--after about 500 rds, the factory extractor needed to be tweaked and needed the treatment again after another 150...I pulled it and installed a Wilson Bulletproof, and it hasn't been a problem since.

Mine is another that hits consistently low, but not so bad that I'm going to send it back.

Actually, the biggest gripe I had with mine was that the rear slide serrations were SHARP and cut my thumb when I shot it--I'd bleed after 1 magazine.  I beveled the edges and re-parked and it's not an issue anymore.

FWIW: I just bought a SA Loaded Trophy Match in stainless steel. Damn thing has everything except an automatic butt wiper on it.

I took it to the range last week & run a few rds thru it & to sight it in. It had ZERO malfunctions of ANY sort. Once I got the sights dialed in it shot out the x-ring if I did my part.

killthewabbit also has a Loaded SS SA & his shoots damn fine as well. Not to put words in his mouth, but he's pretty GD happy with his gun.

Granted, SA isn't perfect as Desertmoon will attest to. Given his long, long, long, long list of SA problems with various SA 1911s, I'm betting he simply has bad karma with SA.

Before I bought this one, I asked my gunsmith which brand (not model) to get. Without a second's hesitation he simply said "Springfield". Works for me.

I bought my SA "Fully Loaded" in  8/02 and it has been a fantastic shooter!!!!
It is my most accurate auto handgun!
I own a BHP, SIG 226, and  many other auto handguns.
It surpasses them all in accuracy.

It is a DAMN FINE handgun!!!

PS .... Believe it or not..My Ruger 345 .45 is the next most accurate handgun!!

I'm a springfield whore and I have ummm....4.  I have 2 full size, both stainless one .45 black stainless and one 9mm.  I have 2 compacts one micro gi with night sights and one ultra stainless.  2 XDs both .40.  I have only had one problem with the guns and that was the micro and that was my first .45 and I fixed my problem.  Other than that I shoot the 9mm in IDPA ESP.  I shoot the full sized black stainless in IDPA CDP, IPSC limited 10 and single stack.  I've changed springs, added magwells and sights.  They run like tops with lord only knows how many rounds down the 9mm.  The .45 I'm just starting to run.  I also shoot the XDs in production.

I know somepeople get bad guns but thats the same with anything.  I could go pick up a 2k wilson tomorrow and get the one dud ever made...just how things go.  Also I've had nothing but great service from springfield and I bug the shit out of them!  If I had any problem what so ever I would send the gun back and keep sending it back until it was fixed or replaced.

PRICE CHECK:
You can get a used springer loaded for about 550-600 if you wait around.  I haven't paid over 600 for a 1911 yet!  Now the add ons.....

It took me a month to sell my NIB PX9109 for under $600. IIRC it sold for $575. Sold it to fund an unexpected purshase.

My Springfield Armory Loaded Standard 1911 needed alot of polishing before it shot reliably. Now, I've shot it so much that the slide and frame are real loose fitting and it's not as accurate as it was.

I wouldn't buy another Loaded.

I did buy another Springfield Armory Inc, 1911. I think I got a steal on it, as the serial number starts with NM and it doesn't say MADE IN BRAZIL anwhere on the pistol. It's a SAI Mil-Spec. It's wonderful.

Springfield 1911 pistol. - $XXX

Investment to get pistol running correctly. - $XXX

Watching someone else dump $XXX to get it running when SA would have done it for free. - Priceless.

Sorry if that seems rude, but I've never understood why people dump money into a problem pistol when SA would have taken care of it for free, and possibly sent you some extras for your troubles.

I didn't dump any money into it. I polished the feed ramp, extractor, breech face, barrel locking lugs and breech lug. Took maybe an hour with 600 grit sandpaper.

I own a parked loaded and love it..  Has about 2k through it right now and never had problem..  I agree with the freaky accuracy, it's a tack driver..  I was going to buy a TRP but backed off to the loaded because I found out you can send it in to Springfields custom shop and get the TRP package done on the loaded for about $500.00, which is roughly the price difference between the two.

I have a S/S Loaded model. Accurate and reliable out the box. My only complaint is that the rear sight worked itself loose and would not stay tight. It's going back to
Springfield to have that taken care of. Otherwise, it's a good gun.

I had one.  The stainless with black accents with adjustable sights.  Rear sight "exploded" and had to be sent back.  Then it wouldn't feed even hardball (not sure how they managed that since it worked fine before it went back).  I traded it in.

Personally, I thought that the gun felt cheap.  I have a bias against SA now.

So, if I wanted a tighter slide to frame fit and a shorter front sight to make her shoot higher, I could just send it to SAI?

What'll it cost me?

Yes, or send it to Wilson Combat or Cylinder & Slide, etc. etc.

Most have quote estimates on their web sites, IIRC????

I have a parked Springfield Loaded. Out of the box it was ok. I had a couple of FTF but I think that was extractor related. It also had a pretty crappy trigger.

I took it to a local smith and had him work it over. He dehorned and reparked it. I had him put an EGW trigger, EB hammer, EB sear and EB single side extended safety because I didn't like the ambi. I replaced the FLGR with a standard GR and plug and I swapped the flat MSH for an arched version. He actually loosened the gun up a little in the process and now it cycles much smoother. It was very very tight from the factory.

Now I think with a little trigger and extractor adjustment this gun would have run fine so most of the stuff I did was unnecessary and done because I wanted to.

I have right around $1000 into it and I think it’s perfect but for future reference I will buy a mil-spec or G.I. and then turn it into what I want.
