Was cleaning the 1991 Colt with 3.5" barrel that I just picked up; took a Kroil oil soaking for 2 days plus a trip to the gunsmyth to get the Firing Pin Stop out. Took him about 20 minutes to get it out. Once that was done, it was time to get that part of the slide a cleaning like it never had before.

Now it was time to put it back together. And here is the question: ΒΏIs the Firing Pin Plunger(part #10) and its associated spring(part #32) required, or can they be left out since Saint John Moses Browning didn't put it on the original design? I was looking at it and may have to get another Plunger Lever(part #31) and take that forward facing lever off to prevent it from hanging up.

Any input on this?

This question predicates my answer. What will the firearm be used for?

If you insist, the lock and spring can be left out, and the frame levers can be replaced with special spacers that replace the safety levers.

Brownell's used to sell these washer-like spacers.
