I have been offered a brand new High Standard 1911a1 for $400. I don't know a thing about this brand. Does anyone?

Depends..if it's their base USGI-like model it's made by Armscorp, same makers of Rock Island and a bunch of other inexpensive 1911's.

Some swear by them, some swear at them. If you search for Rock Island, or find some 1911-dedicated boards, you'll surely see a lot of traffic on them there...

Try forum.m1911.org for one place; I'm sure you can find a ton of information there.

I have a pair and they are just fine for what I need them for

I wouldn't trust my life to them but then again they haven't given me a reason not to.

Too close in price to the low model SA pistol. Why take the chance on a pistol with a spotty record when you can get a NIB pistol with a warranty for a few bucks more?

Thanks for the input guys. I think I will just add 60 more bucks and get an SA GI.
