Hello all, My name is Robert Miller, and I'm a new member on the AR-15 forums here. I am also the owner and sole proprieter of Miller Custom where 1911's are my specialitly. I thought I would take a moment and post my information and let you know that if you have some questions on technical data or just general 1911 gunsmithing or inquiries, feel free to contact me. My website is www.millercustom.com email [email protected] or [email protected] My phone number is located on my website for those interested in calling. Thanks for the interest and I look forward to discussing handguns with you all. Yours, Bob P.S. I also have knowledge in the AR-15's too after spending a few years CNC Milling them from forgings and bar-stock. |

Welcome. Another 1911 manufacturer is about as necessary as another hole in the head, but a manufacture of 1911s who builds them to spec like JMB intended is always beneficial to us, especially if competitively priced. do you hand fit everything yourself, or CNC? What parts are made in house and what are brought on board? MIM or 100% tool steel? ETA: Should have asked for the catalog of services... manufacture, smithing, customizing? Also, it would be great if you have some pics of work. |

Yeah, I was informed that I had been added. I don't know if it was a group of my buddies or what, but I was told that I was added to the AR-15.com and thought I might introduce myself in person. I am listed as a Manufacturer as suggested by the BATF since I do builds from just frames and slides (it is a long story, but illegal to build a gun from a frame and slide and not charge excise tax). I will be however doing my own frames and slides in the next 3 years. I am currenty re-engineering some drawings for submission to different facilities for quotes...but that will be after I finish my degree in Mechanical Engineering. Right now, I make some of my own small parts from front sights to mainspring housings. I buy mostly all the necessary parts from manufacturers abroad and hand fit and hand machine the componants according to specific requests by the customer. I prefer to exclude the MIM parts and try to talk my customers into using barstock or cast parts. I know there are 2 sides to that coin, and arguments have been heard on both sides, but I know what has worked for me in my experience, and what I have seen fail before. I also try to work and persuade my customers to use parts built here in the good old USA. I am 100% Custom, and all work is done soley by me. If a customer is interested in a build, he gets to talk directly to the person performing the tasks. From hand fitting to hand polishing..these are my babies. The only thing I don't do is the final finishing other than blue. Hard Chroming and other finishes are sub contracted as 99% of the other shops do. I just finished up a set of full house Colt 10mm Delta's. One in stainless and one blue. They turned out gorgeous. I am waiting for my customer to recieve his grips and he will be snapping some pictures for me to post on the website with a write up. Any other pictures can be seen on my site, www.millercustom.com. Thanks, Bob |

For reasons I still don't know, I'm not supposed to say that I worked at places like, or similar to Springfield Armory, Lewis Machine and Tool, or Rock River Arms...so I don't. hat I have made hundreds over hundreds of M-203 grenade launchers, thousands on thousands of AR-15 recievers and parts, and had my hands on more than 700 custom 1911's with countless production 1911's. I chose the custom 1911's over production...there is no skill in assembly and no satisfaction in an artistic sense when it comes to just putting a pistol together. Sorry I couldn't answer your question. Bob |

Here is some pics off the website. I hope to have some more updated picture soon. I am going to start doing my own web design once I figure out how to run and operate this program....so far I'm getting my butt kicked on it. Enjoy. Guys, I can personally attest to bob's ability. He has already built on commander for me, and he is currently building up a Mil Spec I sent him. His work is outstanding, and he is one of the most friendly, honest guys you will meet. He also has very decent turnaround time (which probably won't last). A friend here in Vegas who has just about the nicest collection of custom 1911's IN THE COUNTRY (no that is no exaggeration, trust me) goes through Bob now for all his builds, including the two sweet Delta's Bob mentioned above. There are some simply amazing smiths on this forum and others, but Bob is one of the lesser known but up and coming smiths - he is one to watch. |

Oh, you would love to be my father then. That is a sister pistol to his 50th Birthday present. They sport his and my name for the serial numbers. Durring the build on his pistol, I was taking mine and having him hold onto it, take different parts and have him "help me choose" what parts to use...all the way down to the checkering and finish. That finish is Bodycoat, the Boron-Carbide application. He had absolutely no idea what I was doing as it took me a year to complete the builds (working on them here and there, obviously). Needless to say, he was shocked when he got it....almost seen him drop a tear. Bob |

I suppose you can just call me an a**hole and get it out of the way, regardless of my opinions on the previously mentioned. 1911's are 1911's, but they do have different degree's. Some are less in quality...those are the "budget 1911's", then the mediocre range Les Baer, Rock River, Springfield, and you have the higher end stuff like from the custom shops that you might see on the Louder Than Words group and beyond. I won't be arrogant and put myself on the top of that list... My placement will be determinded by a mixture of both my work and your opinions. Bob |

Bob Your acceptance over at LTW speaks volumes to your future in this business. Glad to se you finally made it over here to rub elbows with us little people. With you, Jason and Chuck around I think we are in good hands. Now if I can get Ted to post around here instead of just lurking ...................... welcome aboard |
I will take full credit for that actually. Glad to see you joined arfcom Bob! -Ryan |
| Ok, you guys have got to STOP posting pics of supercustom 1911's in every freaking thread in this forum, I'd like to get a down payment for a house saved up and I never will if I am so tempted by this stuff. Mr. Miller, your work looks simply amazing, though sadly as of yet I am not one to be a proper judge of it. Hopefully one of these days a smith like you will build a gun for me. |
