How badly does changing out the hammer affect a "trigger job"?  I've got a drop-in C&S kit in my Kimber, but the hammer leans pretty badly and I'm planning on replacing just the hammer.  How much is this likely to affect the ignition system?

Define hammer lean? I.e. does it lean forward? To the left? Twisted a bit so it faces off-true?

If it leans in ANY direction other than straight up or down, replacing the hammer won't do jack...

And to answer the original question, yes, it will..the sear is mated to the hammer, angles are trued relative to each other, etc. Changing one alters the equation..

I've never heard of this.

I don't know how to describe it -- it leans a bit to the right.  The stock hammer did not do this, but sat perfectly.

The hammer could effect the trigger job quite a bit. Ed Brown Hardcore Hammers are my favorite. Excellant QC and would be my first choice, and in my opinion your best bet.

Thanks Steve.  I bought a hammer, strut, and pin.  It's not too expensive and it's easy to change out, so if it really stinks then it's easy enough to go back to the old hammer.  The C&S hammer looks to be twisted a bit.  Not enough to affect function, but just not perfectly machined.

I actually ended up purchasing an STI hammer through brownells.  Just cause it looked different.

STI makes good stuff as well, send the C&S hammer back and ask for a replacement. Hell I would.

Is it like the pin hole is crooked?

No, it's more like the "shaft" is twisted slightly.
