I was at Sportsman's Warehouse yesterday. I wanted to see if they had a Springfield Armory Mil-Spec "Loaded" in stock. I am a big fan of Stainless Steel but, alas, they had none. However, they had a parkerized model in stock for about $650. My question is how well does pakerizing hold up compared to Stainless Steel? Will is show a lot of holster wear if I carry it once in a while? Rust easily? On another note, I would install a magwell, if I got this pistol. How hard is this to do? Does it require a pistol smith? Thanks! |

Well, to put it plainly, pretty much every military firearm is parkerized. Parkerizing is very very durable and corrosion resistant. As to the magwell, if you get an S&A or Wilson magwell that replaces the mainspring housing, it is very simple to install. I don't recommend the magwells that utilize the grip screws to hold them in place. |
| Precision Gunworks has an excellent article on magazine well mods. As for Parkerizing, it's pretty tough stuff. You'd probably wear out a whole lot of holsters before you wore the Parkerizing off. |
