Forgive me if this is a silly question. I love 1911s, but don't know anything about working on them yet.

When buying a used 1911 it seems to me like it's probably a good idea to go ahead and replace things like the recoil spring when there's an unknown round count. Exactly what all springs is it suggested to replace though? Mainspring? Recoil spring? What else?

Me, I just replace the recoil spring and firing pin spring.

I would replace the mainspring if and only if I am getting light hammer strikes and a failure to fire.

I had to replace on "flat spring" (sear spring?) only because it was missing a finger.
