when it's halfcocked and you squeeze the trigger the hammer shouldn't drop right?
My stainless SA loaded pistol is doing this now. Any ideas?

Dont have mine on hand right now but I believe it's normal.  There is no reason to keep a 1911 on half cock in the first place.

Its a Springfield quirk.  I don't know why, but for some reason, SA hammers and sears allow the hammer to fall if the trigger is pressed hard when on half cock.  Every SA with factory components that I have owned do this.  When I replace the hammer and sear, it will not do this.

I just checked, my new springer GI and my series 80 Colt Commander both do this.   My Springer with Ed Brown hammer and sear does not.   I dont know what the difference is but apparently it's not unique to SA.

On the ones that fall. The half cock notch in the hammer is of non captive design for the sear.

Falling from 1/2cock on trigger press is normal for non-captive designs.

Springfield changed their hammer design in 2005.
