I just bought my first SA Mili Spec used (2004 model) and took it to a local gun shop today and had some Hogue with finger grips out on. Greatly inproved groups to 2" at 15yrds.

I ask the owner if he thought it was a good deal and if it was in need of any repairing.
I'm not a 1911 gunsmith buff yet so I am still learning.

So he agreed it was in great condition. Then he had to bash it a little.
saying it was not reliable as a glock. but there good guns to shoot

Why I almost bitch slaped him.
If I wanted a glock I would have gotten one.
screw him, taking my money to another shop

No offense, but why did you get so upset, pretty much his assesment mirrors real-world observations of many.

The Glock is the Honda Civic of the handgun world, if you feed it, it will fire.  The 1911 is more like a Porsche.  It is a beautiful thing when it is properly tuned and running right and the performance is second to none.  However, it requires significantly more maintainence to keep it running at peak performance, ie: replacing worn springs, religious cleaning and lubing, ammo selection, etc.
Don't get me wrong, I love my 1911, I shoot it well, I carry it on duty, and it has never once failed me...BUT...IMO the Glock is and always will be more reliable, based on design, construction, etc, more reliable then a 1911 in that it will shoot what you feed it, requires very little cleaning and lube.

The store owner had it right on the money.  Buy a Glock for a low maintainance handgun that will always go bang.  Buy a 1911 if you want an incredible handgun that is an engineering masterpiece as well as a work of art.

I like Glocks, so don't get this wrong, but the store owner was full of s$%t. I am down to 3 1911's at the moment, but I've owned arount a dozen. I have tinkered with dozens more. Box stock to full house race guns. I shot one built on the eighth berylium prototype from para. I don't think of them as Porches. More like the 1970 Chevelle 454. Incredible looks, awesome power, and a little room to customize or improve. I've never had one break or fail to function that wasn't the shooters fault. Similarly, the Glock is a fine weapon, but I can almost make it jam at will by limpwristing. Again, that is the shooters fault. Why doesn't every law enforcement agency in the world use the Baretta 92? It is supposed to be the most jam free pistol out of the box. The truth is, no one firearm manufacturer can make a difinitive claim to being better than any other. I say get your 1911 how you want in and enjoy it. If any one wants to tell you their BFG 9000 is better, tell them to prove it.

I must add my 1911 metaphore:

The 1911 is like a Jeep.  They are fine from the factory, but sometimes do a little better with a bit of a tweek here or there.  The most Jeep like aspect of the 1911 is that you can make it LOOK ANY WAY YOU WANT and make it PERFORM ANY WAY YOU WANT.

For the Jeep and the 1911 there are more accessories than can possibly be added, from the low end to the high end.  They are both emminently customizable to the tastes and/or economy of the user.....

many users often put more into their Jeep or 1911 than they can truly afford.....and they seldom regret it......
