Im trying to decide on a barrel to put in my SA project Im finishing for a carry piece. Has anyone installed one of these? Is the kit very helpful if so maybe someone wants to sell theirs maybe. I just dont feel like fitting a traditional match grade barrel since Im not touching the slide to frame fit. Any input or anecdotes appreciated.

Tag!

(Yes, I know there's a Tag button now )

I have an Ed Brown drop-in which...doesn't want to drop into an early 70's made S70, which has some timing problems.

I've heard the Kart ez-fit kits are wonderous but I'd love to hear more experiences with it, before I plunk down the cash.

I have fit two of them. Yes, buy the kit. Study the manual until you understand it completely. No, they are not EZ. Remember file a very little and check. Use a blue magic marker to check where you need to file.

Good luck,

Lynn

How was the accuracy and ease of cleaning the bore? If you dont mind me asking.

Accuracy if installed correctly is very good.  A lot better then I am able to shoot.  I am able to get minute of tin can at 15 yrds all day.  The fitting is very tedious, but well worth the effort.  I also will recomend getting the complete kit as it has all the tools needed to fit up the barrel.  Then you have them for future use.

REMEMBER.... METAL IS EASY TO REMOVE BUT VERY HARD TO PUT BACK.

Aim straight and have fun

The first barrel I ever fitted was a Kart EZ fit.  As said above, the kit is worth it.  Kart barrels are peerless, in my opinion.  Some like Bar-Sto better, but for me, it only equals Kart, and I use Bar-Sto only if someone wants the name, or if they want a stainless barrel.

Kart bores are beautiful.  They are very smooth, and ease of cleaning is tops.  You won't be disappointed.  As far as fitting a match barrel in a gun where slide to frame fit is not touched, it will still greatly improve accuracy.  Though I routinely fit the slide to frame when I do a match barrel, it is a very small part of the accuracy equation.  Fitting a match barrel on a gun with regualr slide to frame tolerances is just fine.

Thanks guys thats what I wanted to hear. I'm going to call up Brownells and try one out. The Springfield went back for warranty work (shooting low, horrible accuaracy) and to the Custom shop for checkering and the frontstrap undercut and while they had it they snugged the slide to frame fit up just a little. So Im not going to peen it any since this will be my new carry piece and I dont want to go through the hassle of fitting a Bar-Sto again but I still want a little fitting and not a total drop in.
