Hey, when you guys shoot, do you hang onto the trigger tightly after the shot breaks?  Or do you throw your trigger finger out right away.

When I shoot rifles, when I'm shooting for groups, I squeeze the trigger, then I hang onto the grip with the trigger all the way depressed during recoil.  Now, when shooting rapidly, it's obviosly much harder to do.  But for expample, if you do a double tap, are you staying sqeezed on the 2nd shot?  Do you get what I mean?  I think when shooting faster I have a tenancy to throw my finger out after the shot breaks.  Which I think is the wrong way to do it.  Or does it matter?  It would think if you kept it squeezed you'd have a more controlled follow through and more consistent if you do it the same way every time.

What do you guys do?

I guess all this is subjective and up to personal taste - whatever works for you is best for you.

But - no, I don't hang on tightly to the trigger once the shot let go. That would mean I was not squeezing the trigger gently enough to have an accurate shot. And usually my finger is trained to go out of the trigger guard (unless rapid firing).

Once the shot goes off the finger is relaxed so the trigger can cycle and I am ready for my next shot (or not).

I've been taught again and again about "trigger reset/finger reset" where you are supposed to practice moving your finger out only until the sear resets itself and then by practicing this a lot you get better and are able to do it faster.

I try to practice this when I'm just shooting accuracy at the range, so that I will build up muscle memory and end up doing it automatically, but I'm sure when I am shooting competition (IPSC IDPA) that I'm usually pulling my finger farther forward then necessary just to make sure I get the next shot off.

My groups are good and I practice quite a bit so even if I'm doing it not 100% "technically" correct, it works for me.

Hold the trigger to the rear untill you recover from recoil and realign your sights, reset the trigger and press.

It's the way I shoot and what I teach.

Thank you sir, this is what I thought.
