Guys I currently have a springfield "Loaded" 1911  PX9109L (Custom Loaded full size)  and want to add a magwell.  What is recommended for easiest fit and best functionality?

I have heard to stay away from Smith & Alexander becausing of fitting problems.  I have heard some recommend Wilson Combat along with  Ed Brown Maxi-Well

THanks

I've heard that the S&A will allow you to use Power 10 mags, where alot of others won't. I had to have a smith open up an Ed Brown to allow the Power 10 to fully seat.

I like the S&A's too. In my opinion, they're the only add on mag well that looks natural.

I am having trouble determining which part number Smith & Alexander I would need to order.

Since my Springfield is parked (loaded) I would want to get one of the blued versions.

Can anybody tell me the differance between the flat, rounded and grizzly?

Thanks again.

Flat and arched (rounded) refer to the mainspring housing shape. My guess on gizzly would be that it is for the LAR Gizzily 1911 with a flat MSH.

+ whatever for the S&A.
I prefer the one piece magwell design.

Yep, flat and rounded function exactly the same as far as the gun is concerned.   It's just an option to fit the gun to your hand better.  Kind of like different color grips.....what do you like?  The gun could care less what is on it, it functions the same.

I ordered and received an S & A for my Les Baer Concept VI just this week.
Now to remember how to remove the old one, LOL.

I had a Wiilson on my old Colt,  the sharp edges on that one got me more than once.

I have this from Wilson Combat on my Colt Commander.

Our Custom Magazine Well provides a large beveled opening for super fast magazine changes without adding unnecessary bulk to your pistol.  These magazine wells are manufactured from solid steel to provide a durable and attractive addition to your firearm.  This is the same magazine well we use on many of our top selling pistols.  The Custom Magazine Well attaches to the grip screw bushings and is held in place by the grip panels.  No frame modification is required, however slight modification to the grip panel is required unless relieved grips are used.

It looks like this installed.

I was just gonna ask about the wilsons......  think I can fit them on frames with a) VZ ultra thin grips and b) CMC ultra thin grips?  If I saw rihgt, Numrich has these magwells for 3$?

the part you have picture looks to be plastic.

Wilson are steel and will have a "U" shapped cut out for the grip screw bushing with the cut facing towards the front of the magazine well.

What they have pictured there is not a wilson looks like.

I ordered from them twice both times I did not get the parts as ordered. I won't order from them again.

Most people (including those in the know) get the S&A.  You would want the flat version if you want it to be like the one on your loaded, or you could get the arched for a different feel but most prefer the flat.  You will (or should) have to "blend" it.  That means filing on it.  I did this.  Since yours is blued you'll have to re-blue with cold blue.  My was stainless but I'm about to install a flat S&A on my SA GI.  I will fit, blend, install then cold blue.  Here's some instructions coutesy of blindhogg:

My grips are stock thickness. You would probably have to be very careful when modifying a thin grip so as to have enough "meat" to hold the magwell without cracking or splitting the grip.

I agree,m, but both on website and in SGN they are advertised as Wilson Combat Mag Wells.

I'm probably gonna go SA if I have the cash, Wilson if I don't (the real wilson)

Keep an eye out on 1911forum.com.  There's often a magwell for sale that someone bought but later decided not to install, for a few bucks off.  I saved about $25 on a new S&A there and saw one there just last week IIRC.

Speaking of which, I may be posting a brand new Hienie magwell that I never installed.
