Getting a little expensive shooting and was wondering who has one of the Kimber full size .22 uppers and how they like them.

Got one last month and have used it once.  I like it, some what easy on and off.  Ran around 100 rounds through it, a couple times faliure to lock back into battery.  But I was running it dry with out lube.  I know not a good idea but now out of habit I run things till they fail just to see, even a training tool like a 22 slide.

Plan to use it agian soon but lubed up before hand.

I like mine. I had to file on the mags a little to get them to feed properly on my Sistema receiver. And I think it prefers hot .22.

Bought one 2 yrs ago. also Bought a new Rock Island Armory 1911 at the same time to put it on.  It would'nt fit. The hole for the slide stop on the grip frame was just .002" too low and made the Kimber way too tight. I did not want to modify the conversion unit to fit this out of specs frame.   Tried it on my Springfield Armory's & Colt's and it fit just fine.  Bought a new SA GI mod. and it works great on it.  My Kimber likes solid nose mini-mags. Anything with less power and it will short cycle the slide, especially on the first few rounds off a fully loaded mag. I have noticed that with regular Federal copper clad rds, if I only load 4 or 5 rds it will cycle OK.  It seems to run better with a shot of CLP at the frame rails.  It is more accurate than me, and if you don't mind paying a little more for the .22 ammo, you'll enjoy owning one.  Good luck, ALLONS11

Mine runs best on Winchester Wildcats. Go figure. I've tried them all.

Kimber says it wont lock back and mine never has

I cant run cheap 22lr I have to run mini mags or other quality 22lr ammo

I love it and my boys love the chance to shoot my 1911

edit

sorry did the slide not lock back or did the slide not move completely forward?

I'm not a big fan of swapping slides on frames, so may I suggest reloading to cut down on the price of ammo instead.  For the price you are going to spend on the upper, it's enough to get you started in reloading.

By saying did not lock back into battery, I ment did not lock completely forward.  In battary is a expresion about for a weapon with action closed and ready to fire.

It would be suprising for with how its constructed for it to lock back the slide.

So what 22 ammo does yours best run with??

You can get started in reloading spending about 200-300 dollars?

Only if you are doing one round at a time on a RCBS Rock Chucker...you could not with a Dillion.
