Nighthawk GRP RECON, WILSON CQB with rail, or other? Overall quality/finish/reliability |
|
I hear Nighthawk will customize any pistol, does this mean I could request that they use their best parts or something, their best and most reliable internals and such for a high price? Please vote if you know what you're talking about! This is a big chunk of money! |

Either the Wilson Combat and the Nightforce are very fine semi-custom 1911's. They are both very good. I just prefer Wilson. I build only custom 1911's. Totally custom 1911's are in a different class. If I had to buy one out of the box because I needed it right now I would buy a Wilson. If time were not a concern I still would prefer to build my own if cost were no object. Charles.

If you don't mind me asking, you build better 1911's than these companies? Would you build me one? How much would you charge for one with a integrated rail in the frame, all black with a good matt finish like wilson or nighthawk, crome trigger, novake/trijicon nightsights, crome barrel, and "top-of-the-line" internals? It might sound stupid, but I want a 1911 I can be proud of, a 1911 that looks very quality and functions perfectly. |

A semi-custom pistol firm makes and markets guns they think they can sell that will generally fit the expectations needs you or others in their market base may have. A custom pstol firm makes guns solely to your specification that will fit every specific need that you and only you define. There is a big difference in focus between semi-custom and custom products. Again there is absolutely nothing wrong with Wilson Combat or Nighthawk for most people. Charles.

I haven't fired 1911's enough to really know what I specificly want, conserning triggers and such. The GRP seems to offer everything I want at the moment so I am going to go that route. When I get some trigger time with that I'll hit you up, when I have a completely custom firgured out. |
I agree with you. Hell, could get a S70 or repro and have custom work done on it later. Or DIY (at least as much as the owner is comfortable with) which is very personally satisfying and rewarding, IMO. I was at the NFM in Fairfax VA last week. I could not help but look at the examples of original real-deal M1911's they had there. Just amazing. |
