Has anyone had experience with these $37 90% finished slides at sarco? I'm trying to put together a 1911 for cheap, and I've been looking around for a cheap slide.

No experience, but I have been meaning to buy one and see what it looks like.

They look like the important parts are done.  I have been holding off until I can see a better photo of one.

Maybe I'll email them tonight and ask for more/better photos.

Looks like deal unless they are casted slides.
Let us know what you find out, and what Cal the breach faces are cut.
Hell, if they are offered in 40/forged, a few for crazy scalloping on the mill may just be in order.

I think they're .45, the description says "1911 .4, Slide, 90% Finished Colt ", but I think the .4 is probably a typo and they meant .45. Everything else on the page is listed as .45 if I'm not mistaken.

I got an email back with the pictures from sarco, if anyone wants to go to the trouble of posting them on here I can forward them to you. Just let me know if you want them.

IIRC, the cheap 1911 parts kits on the market (sold by Sportsman's Guide and the like) are made by Sarco.

I have not heard much good about those kits, and I can only assume these parts are basically the same thing.  IMO, "buyer beware" may be in order.

No, the parts kits are a mishmash of old Brazilian surplus parts, new cheaply made cast parts, and whatever else may be floating around out there.

These slides are new and unused because they haven't completed machining them.

fwiiw, STI slides in the same condition cost 161.00.  Just something to keep in mind.

Again, it all comes down to if the slides are casted or forged/bar stock.

I just ordered two...

I've been toying with the idea for a while now, and well...why not? If nothing else I can practice milling and fitting sights into one

Once I get them (they said 1-2 week delivery time) I'll take photos (if some aren't already here), and post them.

For $35 (that was the price they quoted to me) each, I figured even if they suck...I could always use 'em as ..something else, I guess.

So that's how they look coming from Sarco?

Do they look like they're Colt-made?

The serrations don't exactily look Colt-like...but I didn't think these came with serrations?

Hmm...mine are still on their way here

I don't think they are Colt slides.  The slide serrations somewhat resemble the XSE series, but the front sight area seems to be drilled for the Millett dual crimp sight (though I think the holes seem awfully big -- maybe that's why these slides were dumped).

Got mine in today, and agreed...the two holes up front are WAY big, and mine don't look like they were finished/cleaned out; i.e. there was a good bit of flashing in those two holes that I need to trim/file out.

Everything else on them looks machined, though.

Perhaps they were Gold Cup slides that went awry? The serrations fit, the relativly high wall with the scallop seems to fit as well..

Otherwise, I was able to drop in a barrel, and a bushing, and they both seemed to fit in fine. Obviously I didn't check to see how proper lockup was or anything, but...it should make an interesting diversion!
