Just like the title says.....any one of you carry your stock SA GI45? if not, what have you done to it...... I'm thinking about carrying my GI45 |
|
com'on....70 something views and no one will admit to carrying their SA GI45????? it is something that is cheap yet effective (no need to spend a lot of money on something that is just good to look at but does not work) I think nothing wrong with carrying it...one just has to know its limitations. Any takers? |

I have a G.I Champion that I now carry after shooting it and making sure that it's reliable and accurate with both ball and HP's. However, I'm a tinkerer...and I have just finished with a beveling of the magwell and lowering the ejection port. So, while I carry it, it will not be bone stock. |
| I have one but I am not going to carry it. The sights are accurate but tough to see against dark backgrounds and forget seeing them in low light situations. The pistol is not all that reliable. Good for plinking but I would not bet my life on it. If I forget to grease the rails the sucker becomes a jamomatic. |
| I carry my SA 1911 A1 GI High Cap daily. Had it with me as primary sidearm for a tactical pistol class. It's accurate and didn't give me a problem. Ran close to 300 rounds through it in a single day without any hiccups. Sights aren't good in low light situations, so I'm thinking about having them changed, but I always carry a light and spare clip on the belt as well. |
My GI has been 100% reliable right out of the box with every type of ammo I've thrown at it. It even runs fine when dirty. I have carried it on occasion but frankly I have 2 other 1911s that are more appropriate carry guns. I would not hesitate to grab it and go though. I use Wilson combat #47D magazines exclusively. I suppose my results with this gun may have been different with the stock mags or maybe not. I've never had to keep the gun lubed to keep it running. Mine has the armory coat finish so it may be a bit slicker than the park finish. |
| I htink the biggest complaint abou them is the sights. many have had them upgraded to some extent. Some will say replace all the MIM parts in them if you are going to trust your life to them, others will say "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". I had one for a while and couldn't stand the sights, so they got swapped along with a few other parts, so it wasn't stock. |
| Mine jammed a lot at first, but it has run perfectly (knock on wood) for the last couple hundred rounds with a heavier recoil spring. I have carried it and used it for my car gun several times without feeling under-armed. It points naturally enough that I don't feel the need for better sights at close range. If I were going somewhere I knew was dangerous, I would carry something else. |
A few bucks on a Wilson "bulletproof" extractor and Wilson #47D mags should keep that GI running like a top for many years. |
| Well I have a Colt 1941 real USGI and I carry it now and then Yes the sight are small but a didtance most SD happen you don't need the sights as for low light I must be able to ID ny target as a BG and again at that range I can look down the slide. Way to much is made over sights on a SD pistol. Look at sights on a snub 38/357 really just a ramp and little notch at rear . Works fine. At real SD range most time less than 10' It will be a point and shoot. |
