| Hi y'all. I am thinking of buying a 1911 for USPSA, but I also would like to use it for other things. I know I want the extended beavertail, commander Hammer and the ami safety because I'm a lefty. I would also prefer to not have a full-length guide rod. I really like the Springfield Armory "Full-size" Parkerized one, but the lowest I can find it is for 660.00$. Can I beat this price by building my own, or buy a cheaper model and put everything I want on it? Thanks. |

There is the GI version which you can probably walk away with at $500 OTD. Then add the specific parts. Building your own you can obviously do it EXACTLY the way you want it. But it will more than likely cost more than your $660 price point (as an example). What you want to accomplish in USPSA will determine your financial and time investment in the gun, gear and training/practice. |
oh, ok. What about the camp perry pistols? |

Get a basic Kimber or Springfield. Start shooting USPSA. After a while, You'll find out what mods You need. www.uspsa.org USPSA / IPSC has a production class. If you have a 9mm, glock, or whatever, You can get a uncle mikes Kydex rig, some extra mags, and start having fun now. |
