My gunsmith builds Steven Segal's pistols. http://www.tusseycustom.com/customers.htm I entered a raffle that was a fundraiser for a gunsmith school up in Susanville. Well... I won the only Steven Segal pistol that has left his collection. Basic description: All stainless steel Caspian frame & slide, loaded with custom features; Novak sight, serrated front strap and main spring housing, beaver tail grip safety, carbon fiber grips, 8+1, beveled mag port, etc. It is a FINE piece of hardware but I'm more of user than a collector. Questions: Any idea what something like that is worth? Where would I go to sell it? Guns America? |
SHOOT IT!!!!! |
tripod and long exposure. Wear some clothes or at minimum underwear if you do this. Otherwise you'll end up in the naked EBAY hall of shame website, Thanks

"He is a tree hugging woman beater" TRUE, but due to his very real martial arts skills AND his real skills with the 1911, most people are smart enough not to say such things to his face. Reminds me of an old 1930's movie. Rudy Vallee is talking to a woman about Joel McCray. He say's "Why is it that the men most in need of a jolly good thrashing, are always so ENORMOUS"? By all accounts, Segal is a real jerk on pretty much all levels, but he does know how to hit and how to shoot. To the question at hand: The value of a Segal edition pistol would depend entirely on the market for such a gun. Unless you have it appraised by an auction house, the only way to find out is to either find out what others are selling for, or put it up for auction. One thing to add to the value is, it's built by a real, top maker, not a Hollywood prop man. |
|
add my 2cents.. figure a custom built 1911 base at 1500, by pretty much anyone add the fact it is a tussy gun add 500 to 750 documented ownership by someone famous sky is the limit. best to contact an auction house, better, contact a well known auction house that sells such things globally.. probaby out of NY or LA hell, you may realize 20-30K out of it.. |

What would the pistol be worth without Segal's connection to it? Does it come with some kind of affidavit from Segal, or other documentation? That kind of thing is usually require for sports memrobilia and the like. For those who like a chuckle at Segal's expense, here is the story of his attempt to get in with the mob. www.crimelibrary.com/criminal_mind/scams/steven_seagal/index.html |
Oh wow..that link is a good read...what a tool Segal is. |
|
Honestly, if you want to reach the 1911 connessiuers, I would list it at the Louder Than Words forum. Other places would be the 10-8 forum and pistolsmith.com. A tussey custom is always a great gun. The fact that it was a Segal gun will lend little to the value in my opinion, at least in the firearms market. On the other hand, like previously mentioned, you might check into film and sports memorabilia places. |
You might get more for it if you DON"T mention it's connection to Steven Segal.....at least on gun/shooting related forums. Segal is a tool and oh yes I would say that to his face. Throwing people around on camera is a lot different than in real life. Anybody that smacks Kelly LeBrock anywhere but on her ass is a jerk.![]() Good luck with the sale though! It sounds like a fine pistol. |

IBTCNF..... (in before the Chuck Norris fans You might as well get as much as you can for it. There are lots of "fools with money" who are eager to buy anything associaterd with celebrity. Get all the documentation you can, contact several MAJOR auction houses, and see what they've got coming up for future auctions where it would fit in (let them provide the best possible market for you, drawing people more likey to spend big bucks for this). This may take some time. Until then unless it's unfired (I doubt it!) shoot that sucker! |

First, the question is, is this a gun that was OWNED by Segal, or is it a simply one built to his standards? If it's a genuine owned by Segal pistol, the price goes up. If it's simple a "Segal Special" that's made like his, price is lower. In addition to gun collectors, there are movie memorabilia and fans who would certainly want to buy it. As for getting in Segal's face....I wouldn't recommend it. Segal is a genuine martial arts Master, and taught in Japan for years. He met the daughter of a VERY respected Japanese martial arts family that's famous in Japan. He married her, moved to Japan and used her family's reputation and contacts to make a big splash in the Japanese martial arts. He taught at her families school and developed his personal skills to a genuinely high degree. His demonstrated skills got great respect in Japan among the real experts. THEN the scumbag, having built a reputation and skill level, abandoned his wife and son, and came home to America, where he made a big splash here in martial arts and then the movies. Last word I had on it, he never sent his wife and son a dime from his movie money. Bottom line he's a creep and scumbag......albeit a genuinely DANGEROUS creep who isn't a faker when it comes to martial arts and 1911's. A thoroughly disreputable man he may be, but don't make the mistake of thinking that makes him a faker. The man really can fight and shoot. |

If you have documentation to the fact that Segal owned the pistol at any particulart time this may increase its' value also. Another thing would be to have a custom presentation case built...then liposuction some of Segal's fat into a thick, properly dimensioned, sealed "bag" to use as the "presentation cushion" for the pistol to "rest" in. This would not only dramatically increase it's value but also the mystique of the seller. Customer: "HOlY COW!!! How did that guy get a bag of Steven Segal's fat???? He must have balls of high grade bronze!!!!" ( etc. ) |
|
This reminds me of a scene from Half Baked... Lady: "I got a used Kenny Loggins album" Brian: "Lady, you want seven bucks for a used Kenny Loggins album? I'll give you $5." Lady: "Uh uh. He autographed it himself." Brian: "All right, I'll give you $4!" Moral of the story, advertise it as a custom Caspian 1911. Don't tell anyone that it was built for Stevie Seagull! |

This is one for those deals that you really aren't going to get a realistic appraisal, IMO. Clearly, the pistol is worth more than the value of the gun itself, but trying to quantify the value of pop culture which has elevated the price of this weapon is a difficult task to say the least. Take Chuck Norris, for example. He hasn't had a movie career for 20 years now, and (as of 2 years ago) his existence in pop culture's short term memory consisted of Syndicated episodes of Walker Texas Ranger, and the Total Fitness Infomercial. It wasn't until "what's-his-face" re acquainted the nation with Norris' demigod status thus reinvigorating his popular status to proportions that dwarf those of William Shatener. Now is the time to put that Invasion USA life-size cinema cutout of Chuck, since any jackass frat will be willing to pay a disproportionate price based on their whims. 2 years ago, the bizzare die hards and memorabilia collectors would be the only buyers, and they would be much more conservative than Dickheads filled with Charger-mania after seeing The Dukes of Hazzard (for the first time ever) on the silver screen. I think I am being kind by ending Segal's "legit" movie Career at five years ago. The last time I saw him He was wearing a black moo moo, and makes sense that he began to train with a 1911 since he be came so fat he couldn't catch a cold. Right now his career would be pretty close to an all time low, since he's not making movies and the last ones he made were tragicomical, regarding the way he's let himself go. Now if he plays up his faults and laughs at himself, he might turn into a new Shatner if his agent can market him in the right commercials, etc. If he dropped the Ho-Hos he might make a comeback now that Chuck has softened the market's reception of has-been action stars of the 80-90s. Therefore, you have to ask yourself what will yield you the most enjoyment value. Will shooting/exchanging the value out of a good gun with an interesting story for the joy of using a unique 1911 do it best of you? Perhaps keeping it cherry and showing it off to certain friends, possibly selling the pistol in a Segal boon in 12 years, or giving it to a relative some day might yield you the most value. I know you would be most satisfied with a going rate on Segal-owned/built firearms, but frankly I think anybody's (including so-called mem experts) authoritative appraisal is BS on something like this. Such transactions consist of what that ONE buyer is willing to shell out and what condition you are in when you think of getting rid of it. The More rabid he is and the less desperate you are will be the best conditions for the sale (if possible). |
I think I am being kind by opining that Segal would rather fellate a chainsaw than allow himself to be the butt of any jokes, especially self-deprecating ones. I give Chuck Norris high marks for being able to have a sense of humor about the "Norris-mania" that is currently sweeping teh intarweb. |

Thanks All, Sorry for not posting any pics yet - I've been over the top busy. I agree the real value is the pistol itshelf and the SS part is seconary. I really apreicate the feed back. As best I know, SS has 40 custom .45's and all have been built by Tussey. I will ask about the details and get back to - with pics. |

"Now if he plays up his faults and laughs at himself"...... Now right there's your problem. According to accounts, Segal HAS no sense of humor, especially not about himself. Segal's movie career went down faster than a Fokker Triplane with a full load of fuel going down in flames. Last time I saw him was in some made-for-cable TV movie, and I changed channels as fast as my fingers could manipulate the remote. GAGK. |
|
Well... This is the best I could do. I took over 20 pictures. It is hard to shoot something so shiny. http://webpages.charter.net/split_pinnacle/Picture13.jpg |
Yes, it was. It's in the $5 bin at Wally World. That's the very definition of "B". When I see Schindler's List in the Wally World cheapo bin, I'll change my mind. |
It is amazing how a simple engraving can turn one's opinion from "beautiful pistol" ![]() to "fugly" ![]() I swear, it's like a giant, glaring scratch. Beautiful workmanship though.
