Preface - this is my fault for not fully researching my purchase before I made it.

I have been looking for a small, lightweight 1911.  I bought a Kimber Ultra Raptor with an internal extractor - foolishly, I thought that they had done away with the Swartz firing pin safety mechanism.  Got it home, shot it, then went to clean it...Fuck!  There it is.

I just CANNOT trust a gun with this crap in it.

Aaaugh.

So Take it out of the frame and swap the firing pin with a regular series 70 pin. End of problem.

Yeah, I guess I could do that - but that still leaves the extra parts in the frame.  Plus, it's a carry gun - I'm a bit leery of disabling a safety mechanism.

If you want a Kimber without the Swartz...search low and high until you find one.

I looked for almost 6 months, trying to find a Custom I that wasn't priced ABOVE the first one I bought 3 yrs earlier.

I finally found one on Gunbroker.  Shook like a leaf due to 'internet gun buying fear,' then bid.  The transactions went perfectly.  Matter of fact, the gun was better than described.

I know your hesitation regarding disabling the Swartz on a CHL gun - my LGS owner and I had the same conversation.  Although I had no intention of traveling that road, he also recommended against it.

Good luck.

First off...  There's a whopping 3 extra parts in the series II guns, and they are easy to circumvent.  Take the stuff out of the slide and forget about it and take the one little piece from the frame (It's the actuator that rides on the sear pin and is pushed up and down by the grip safety) and grind it off so that it doesn't clear the top of the frame.  End of issue.  I'd worry alot more about the crappy ejector/extractor that all stock guns seem to come with, and the super loose firing pin stop.

First think I did to my new Kimber Stainless II was scrap the drop safety stuff and install a Wilson Ejector, and an Ed Brown Extractor, along with EGW's oversized firing pin stop.  Totally reliable.

BTW, every Kimber I've owned has been stellar.  My old Pro Carry had thousands of rounds through it without a hiccup.  My boss has an Ultra Carry in .40 that's as accurate as his Colt Gold Cup or his Springfield.

What's the big deal?  The Schwartz cannot be with you?
