Does anyone know how these are holding up over time? I was wondering what kind of wear they put on the pistol, and if there were any other issues associated with them.

Also, does anyone know if these work on Commanders with out protruding past the muzzle?

I had one once. I had never mounted a light on it, but I did mount it to my 1911.

It was solid and well made. IMO, I think that they would hold up fine.

As for mounting on a Commander...I can't help you there, except that I think that it would not stick out.
