I'm looking for 10-round magazines for a full-size 1911.

Which ones are the best?

Which ones should I stay away from?

Are the Wilson mags any good?  Are there any mags that are just as good but cheaper?

Wilson are indeed good, if not the best.  As far as 10 rounders, I've only used Wilson and McCormick, and have had great luck with both, but I prefer Wilson.  One thing to consider is what your going to use them in.  If the gun has a magwell, like a Wilson or a Smith and Alexander, you need to consider whether the mag has a base pad that might interfere with the mag well.

Why do you prefer the Wilsons over the McCormicks?

Which ones have base-pads that interfere with the magwell?

ETA: How would you rate the 10-rounders from Kimber?

Part of the reason I prefer Wilson is simply that I'm loyal.  I;ve had countless mags from Wilson, and never had a failure, with the exception of a couple cracked lips on mags that saw at least 30,000 rounds.  They are very consistent mags, and their 10 rounders are well made.  I particularly like the welded on shelf on the front.

I had a friend bring me a gun with McCormicks, wondering why they would not work.  His gun had a magwell, and the sleeved base pads were barely allowing him to seat his mags.  A little trimming solved the problem.

The only 10 round mags I would avoid are mags with no form of stop, whether by base pad or welded on shelf, and of course cheap mags.  It's not worth saving a few bucks.  I don't think much of Kimber mags to being with, but have no experience with their 10 rounders.  I would not buy a standard mag from them, so I wouldn't bother with a 10 rounder.  They're not the worst mag, but they are by no means great.

I went through a lot of 10 round angst in my Limited 10 quest .. here's what I found out.

Chip McCormick Power Mags are good... BUT.... if you have a Mag Well extension or Mag Guide it needs to be the kind  that goes with a beveled magazine well or the 10 round McCormick power mags will be a tight fit if they fit at all. If it is a tight fit you can take some plastic off the shoulder and you are home free.

The follower on the 10 round power mags are the old fashion kind that can ride over the slide stop if the slide stop is on the ragged edge of spec....  that is sort of a “rare” thing..

None of the above matter on quality guns like Kimber but I ran into those problems with some of my older 1911s and some of my home brew 1911s...

The Wilson 10 round mags fit any and all mag well configurations.

I’ve never had a Wilson follower try to ride over a slide stop.

Wilson is all I use in L10... actually.. wilson is all I use .. period..

although expensive, i think chip mccormicks 10 rounders with some tripp spring/followers would really be the cats ass in a fighting gun..

My limited experience is I have a mecgar one, it feeds just fine, but if I shove it in to hard, it sort of locks up too far in there and is stuck.  It doesn't have the plastic collar at the bottom to stop it from going too far.
