Hi, Has anyone had their 1911 type pistol Magna-Ported? I shoot a Kimber Pro CDP II with the 4" barrel and love it, but as age sets in, my wrists are taking a pounding. I shoot full house loads in FMJ alot. I've also got a Ruger Super Blackhawk that is Magna Ported and it's really sweet, but am wondering about the double cuts, id slide and barrel. Anyone with experience? Thanks. |

I used to have a Commander that was Magna-Ported. Recoil reduction was noticeable, I suppose, but not really that major. I don't think the ports are ideal in a carry gun, but if it's not used for carry, it's not an issue. Having carried a ported Glock for 6 years, I can attest that the drawbacks can be overcome, but to me, it's not worth the slight recoil reduction. In my Commander, I would say it brought recoil down a little, but it still recoiled more than say, a Colt Governement in 9mm. It won't be as dramatic a reduction as your .44, in my opinion. |
I have one. They did an excellent job. |

Hi, I have two pistols that are magnaported. One is a S&W 638 .38 snubbie and a S&W 629 .44 mag. Being only ten minutes away the guys at Magnaport are very professional and knowledgeable. I have seen their work area when I dropped my toys off and the area is very clean and all of the people have been GREAT. On the performance side, recoil is less without sacrificing velocity in both the 38 and the .44. I suggest dual trapazoids on the barrel. I have shot a colt series 70 that was magna-ported and it held tight groups and the only drawback was I thought the gun was louder than normal. Hope this helps in your decision. Good Luck! |
