Hi,
Has anyone had their 1911 type pistol Magna-Ported?  I shoot a Kimber Pro CDP II with the 4" barrel and love it, but as age sets in, my wrists are taking a pounding.  I shoot full house loads in FMJ alot.  I've also got a Ruger Super Blackhawk that is Magna Ported and it's really sweet, but am wondering about the double cuts, id slide and barrel.  Anyone with experience?  Thanks.

I used to have a Commander that was Magna-Ported.  Recoil reduction was noticeable, I suppose, but not really that major.  I don't think the ports are ideal in a carry gun, but if it's not used for carry, it's not an issue.  Having carried a ported Glock for 6 years, I can attest that the drawbacks can be overcome, but to me, it's not worth the slight recoil reduction.

In my Commander, I would say it brought recoil down a little, but it still recoiled more than say, a Colt Governement in 9mm.  It won't be as dramatic a reduction as your .44, in my opinion.

Any chance that you could email me a picture of your pistol.  The top of the slide?  Guess I'm a little hesitant to have someone cut into my Kimber.  Thanks.

I have had several firearms magna ported, pro ported and had Mag-na-breakes installed for customers as well as for myself (I own a small gun shop in Michigan).  I can tell you their system works.  The question is, how well does it work.

In a 4" Smith and Wesson model 66, when shooting full-house 357 magnums, the gun felt like (in my opinion) like 38 +P+.

The gun that impressed me the most was a Remington Sendora in 338 Remington Ultra Magnum.  I thought the recoil was equal to a Remington 7400 (gas gun) in 30-06.

I recently had a Remington Competition 1100 (12 gauge) Pro Ported (Magna port).  Standard Remington 12 gauge 2 3/4 00 buckshot felt like I was shooting the Federal reduced recoil (laaw enforcement) 12 gauge 2 /34/ inch 00 buckshot.

I am sending out a 2.5" S&W model 19 (357 mag) and a Kahr K9 this week.  I will let you know how they turn out when they come back.

Regardless of what you have, I believe it helps.  I also would have NO problems sending Magna Port any firearm, regardless of value.  They are a top notch company.  The big question is does it help enough for:

A.  You to notice
B.  Justify the expenditure

This can only be answered by you, but the answer is yes to both for me.

Hi,
I have two pistols that are magnaported. One is a S&W 638 .38 snubbie and a S&W 629 .44 mag. Being only ten minutes away the guys at Magnaport are very professional and knowledgeable. I have seen their work area when I dropped my toys off and the area is very clean and all of the people have been GREAT. On the performance side, recoil is less without sacrificing velocity in both the 38 and the .44. I suggest dual trapazoids on the barrel. I have shot a colt series 70 that was magna-ported and it held tight groups and the only drawback was I thought the gun was louder than normal. Hope this helps in your decision. Good Luck!

e-mail sent; here it is for all:

Yes, I need to clean more often.

As for does it work? I do not try and guess what it feels like wrt to recoil as that was not my goal; my goal was reduced muzzle climb. On standard 6 plate rack of plates,  non-ported I could make sub 5 seconds runs. With the porting I am in the low 4s, as a result of less muzzle climb and getting onto the next target faster.
