Has anyone ever purchased the STI 2011 pre-fitted slide & frame kit from Brownells? This is the one I am thinking about getting: STI

I have always made my own frames, so I have not purchased a pre-fit kit but fitting the barrel is much more work than fitting the frame and slide.  If you are planning on building a gun from that kit I hope you know there is still a lot of work to be done.

I agree with Wombat.  Fitting a frame to a slide, leaves room for error.  Heck, if you REALLY screw it up, you can always Accu-Rail it and it'll be better than just about anything.  However, you screw up a barrel fit and you can fun trying to make the gun run, 'cause it probably won't.

So, if you're going to try and make this a do-it-yourself...do it yourself after a competant gunsmith fits the barrel.

STI and SVI used to offer what they called a "short-block", which is a fitted slide/frame/barrel/slide stop, and the frame is cut for a Brown-type beaverail.

Add a pre-fitted hammer/sear/disconnector/sear spring, and you're most of the way there.

I built a 40 cal limited gun based an SVI kit in the late 90s and it's still running strong.

Problem is, you'll probably pay more for all the parts and tools to put it together than to buy a complete gun that you'll know is done right, and has a warranty.
