| Ok,so which should I choose.I don't give a rats ass about the name on the slide,I do however put a premium on reliabilty and accuracy. Both are within my price range. No interest in kimber or S&W. |
if you get a chance to feel both and check out the manufacturing on both before you buy go with the COLT.

| I'll differ, Springfield. Just for the BT and nightsights plus the price helps. And I havent had problems with the MIM stuff. And yes I own both Colt and SA. Plus get it in stainless and you can get the frontstrap checkered at Springfields Custom Shop and still have less money in it. |

Get the XSE. No keylock, only a few MIM parts. Much better quality. The only thing I don't like on the XSE is the beavertail. I would order one direct from Colt and have their custom shop install a S&A, Wilson, or Brown beavertail, and perform any other work you want done. |
I just bought a stainless XSE over the weekend. I was swapping out the grips and found that the plunger tube is so lose it almost comes out of the frame. If you want a true quality 1911, get a gunsmith with a solid reputation to build you something from a Springfield GI or from a Caspian frame and slide. |
Havent bought a Springfield have you? Honestly they are every bit as good as Colt quality wise. Anyway has anyone got a picture of a Colt with the Wilson drop in BT? I have an Enhanced Gov. I wouldnt mind putting one in if they got better ones out now then in the past. I put a Brown in my Elite but the GS is out of business and I hate waiting. As for plunger tubes, its a Colt trait the stock panel doesnt support the damn thing. Bet yours had the rubber wrap around factory ones didnt it. |
Is this directed at me? Just FYI, I currently own three Springfield 1911's. |

Both are good 1911s. I've just held a SS Colt XSE Govt. a few days ago and the trigger was nice for a Series 80 and looked sharp. The SA Loadeds are a great buy for the money and you can remove the ILS system with a MSH and a couple of internal parts swapped out. I don't know if Springfield has corrected this but there was a time that many of their Loaded models were shooting unreasonable low (6-8 inches @ 25 yards) out of the box. My Loaded Operator also shot low from the factory and was corrected by replacing the rear for a taller Novak unit. Whatever you choose, you will have a great 1911 nevertheless...Stan |

Beltfed74 writes: Havent bought a Springfield have you? Honestly they are every bit as good as Colt quality wise Actually, I have bought one. I have a MilSpec that was built up by Mike O'Hara. Pete Single (arguably best in the business at checkering) did the checking. He noted that the frame was crooked and did the best he could at squaring it up. Not an easy task. Anyone can make a lemon. We made lemonade out of it. As to SA's 1911s, I don't care for the extra metal on the dust-cover and front-strap. To keep costs down, SA uses more MIM parts than does Colt. The toolmarks on the mil-spec pistol were pretty awful, much worse than any Colt. SA uses 2 piece barrels. SA's frames are made in Brazil by Imbel, but at least they are forged. Colt's parts are made in the US by union workers. Now, those things might not be important to you. They are to me. On the plus side, SA dehorns their mid-range and higher end pistols, offers an incredible range of desirable options, and does a lot of sponsorship of IPSC/IDPA events. SA offers many pistols at many price points. Although they use the ILS system, it's easily 86'd. I'm a 1911 armorer (also Glock and AR15/M16) and own 1911 by Heinie, Baer, Colt, and SA. I'd say I know the differences quite well. ![]() Custom based on SA Milspec Barsto match target barrel Heinie straight 8 tritium sights Wilson and Brown safeties, fire-control parts, etc. S&A blended mag well Chome by Virgil Tripp Checkering by Pete Single All other work done by Mike O'Hara |
The current stuff coming from Springfield doesn't have the extra metal on the frame. I guess they finally realized that people aren't drilling the dustcovers for optics anymore. |

I just purchased a new Colt National Match in stainless. I think build quality is very good and the thing groups extremely well. When comparing build quality with a friends SA TRP....it looks as though they are very similar. Save for the fixed sights and guide rod. The reason I went with the Colt....it had the quality and it was $300-$400 cheaper than the TRP....And I wanted adjustable sights. Wayne |
