Here's what I do with a new piece: break it down, clean it, oil it, put her together, go out, shoot it, have fun!!!!

i follow a similar path, but I do not break it down before I shoot it.

If its a brand new gun, I'll put alot of rounds through it within a week or two, 500-600. Make all those metal parts become real intimate with each other. Then strip and clean well, leaving it lightly oiled..

Thanks for your replys. It is a new gun. I read the book, and can take it apart and put it
back togather. Can't wait to shoot it!!
