Well, After a lil visit to the local gun shop, Looking for a 1911 style Tourny grade gun, I found myself drooling over the new sig sauer x5. It has the 1911 style, with a grip that fits my hands perfectly. My problem here is that I'm actually considering paying $2400 for a gun, based on the feel, and quality of a sig. I know that there are many many high end guns to choose from, like a kimber, colt, etc... Basically, what im wondering, is if you had $2400 to spend on a tourny gun, would you buy the sig, or just get a quality 1911, add a few mods, stock up on good ammo, and range time? It seems like a simple answer. ( get a 1911 w/ all the goodies).. but damn that sig feels good in my hand. any info would be appreciated. specs on the new sig Caliber 9mm or 40S&W Trigger SA 2.2 to 3.53lbs Adjustable Overall Length 8.82 inches Overall Height 5.87 inches Overall Width 1.73 inches Barrel Length 5.00 inches Sight Radius 7.17 inches Sights Low-Profile Adjustable Weight w/ Mag 47.2 oz Mag Capacity 19 in 9mm, 14 in 40S&W Available Finishes Stainless view all available finishes Part Number 226X5-9-L1 in 9mm 226X5-40-L1 in 40S&W MSRP $2,499 |

There are a couple of things that I don't really like about the SIG. They use fixed sights, which aren't really necessary, and are way non-standard- even SIG parts won't work in them. My opinion? Get a professionally built 1911. It may even be a little cheaper. Get it done by a smith who will cut in a mag well. They don't extend below the grip at all. Expenive, but woth it. |

If you're talking about a "tourney gun" for shooting IPSC/USPSA, I'd look into an STI. You can order direct from the factory and MSRP is around $1900. If you're anywhere near Jackson, there is a gun store there that is an STI dealer that could probably get you an even better price. Unfortunately I can't remember the name of the place, something like Stuepeck's. If you want a single stack, I'd look at a Springfield Armory TRP and a boat load of ammo. Either way, I couldn't spend $2400 on a Sig, but that's just me. |
