I was recently given a Rock Island Armory 1911a1 FS-GI Parkerized.  It is NIB and I have seen them in Shotgun  News for around $300.  I find it to be a really nicely made pistol.  Fit and finish are really tight.  I have not fired it yet, but I look forward to it.  Does anyone own one?  Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.  Also, I am looking for a GI leather holster (1916?) and a mag pouch, for my 1970s web gear.
Cheers!

PS: The pistol is made in the Phillipines...a 1911 manufacured in the Phillipines?  Ironic.

You shouldn't have posted about the Phillipines manufacture, the hive will now tell you that it is junk and you should sell it and buy a "better more reliable" weapon.

Anyways, good luck my CD clone, that is also from the Phillipines, works well and I love shooting it.

you'll get both good and bad opinions of them. I've had no problems with mine, Actually used it as a base gun to build on. It shot great out of the box, but tiny sights and hammer bite had to go. If you want to keep the MilSpec look, change the springs and leave the rest stock. You shouldn't have any problems with it. They are great guns for the money....even better if it was FREE. enjoy it.

I am new to the 1911, can you give me some more info on the springs?  and you hit the nail on the head, I do like to retain the mil-spec look.

the recoil spring mine came with was not bringing the slide back into battery..i changed it out with a Wilson 18.5 and problem solved..Leave the firing pin return spring stock, as i found this was better than the wilson i bought to replace it. Try it with the stock spring first, if you don't have any problems, don't worry about it right now...if you do...change it when you strip the gun it to clean it.

Buy a Wolff recoil spring, it will come with a FP spring also. Change one, change the other. Wolff makes very high quality springs and are very reasonably priced.

I had a few issues with the shitty mag my came with, but I got new ones and have had no problems since.  Definitely a good gun for the money.

The mags that come with RIA's are Novak mag's.  Very high quality, they just need some breaking in, as they come with a stiff spring.  My RIA has been great.  I did a few things for personnal fit, trigger, beavertail, hammer and sights.  Polished the feed ramp and put a 18.5' spring in, and it feeds everything.  i can shoot WWB, steel case Russian, and JHP loads perfectly.

lot's of people will talk trash, i'm willing to bet they haven't handled one or shot one yet.
