I had my Novak's fall off and to make a long story short, I'm sending the whole gun back to Springfield. They wanted me to send the slide and I asked them if they could zero the gun with just the slide and she said no. After asking why I would want to do this if I just had to redo it when I got it back, she said "Oh, you could just send the whole gun." Well, yeah I am. Anyway, do we have a sticky on how to ship guns? I can ship to them personally but do they have to ship it back to a gun store? Thanks.

You'd be suprised at how easy it is to pust a set of sight's on a slide only and have them be dead on without zeroing.  I sent the slide of my .45 to Novak's for them to install a set of Lo Mounts.  They were perfect.

Thanks but if I have to send it back I want it done right. I don't want a "Probably be right."

Perfectly understandable since your sending it back to SA and they were the ones who didn't do it right in the first place.  I wonder if they will really take the time to zero it though?

I guess I'll find out.

They will ship the gun back to you, or rather to the address you used when you shipped it back to them.  Keep your receipt and send it along with your gun as they will issue you a refund for the cost of shipping.  (about $49 one way, overnight UPS)     <------ from personal experience

My brand new SA is shooting really low for some reason.  Any way to adjust the Novaks without sending it into SA?

At what range?  What type of ammo?  These are certainly just two factors to consider before changing the height of the front sight.  Or, maybe you are looking over your sights?

I was using UMC .45 230 gr. FMJ at about 8 yards and it was shooting about 10 inches low.  I know they are zeroed at 25 yards, but wouldn't it shoot high at 8 yards if properly zeroed at 25 yds?

Maybe I have it backwards.

Not necessarily.  Up real close it will shoot low from point of aim.  Although, I'm surprised it's that low at 8 yards.  I would bet you are maybe looking over your sights or pushing the gun down a little when you fire.  Maybe get a buddy to shoot a few without telling him waht the problem is and see if it shoots low for him also.

It may have been less than 10 inches.  I do not remember for sure.  Also, why does SA use the 6 o'clock sighting?
