Shot august's arfcom challenge with my loaded

Then shot some drills

Last months match ended with some 75yard targets which I did not do well on.

My daughter has been fascinated with my Milt Sparks this week

Yeah, it's a price to need ratio right now. $150+new grips for what? A 0.5 second reduction on reload speed? Plus while the length of the gun isn't increased it does add a sharp edge on a part that prints the easiest.

Oh I agree the price added is a bummer. Especially the grips when you have some you like. You can really cut some of that price down though by going with someone other then Chin. $95 will get you a Smith and Alexander $75 will get you a EGW. What I didn’t think about was the then added desire to go well it’s easy enough to carry with this gun why not put them on the others as well.

FWIW, I lusted after magwells for my CRG and my MCOP before I got my Specialist. After carrying/shooting it for a few years, I’ve considered removing the magwell altogether.

…Stan Chen makes one that requires a frame cut and adds no length at all to the grip. But $$$$$.

New shoes from Angry Dick Leather, and finally switched to slim profile grips on the CRG. I got hooked on slim grips after I bought one of the Colt Concealed Carry Government Models several years ago, and have been looking for a good quality set of stags ever since. I finally found some for the right price and man, are they sweet.

I took the S&A mag well off the CRG for carry, because it added weight and did not conceal well. I don’t miss it, TBH, because I can reload just as easily without it.

YMMV

A lot of the time in my looking it seems to be hard to find them that support the plunger tube even in standard thickness, that’s awesome.

Yessir!

He’s on Instagram by the name of Angry Dick Leather.

Most of his grips go for around a hundred bucks shipped. That’s what these were, and they’re as nice, or nicer, than grips costing half again as much.

Novak style sights are peak boomer.     I prefer a flat face forward on pistol sights which serves a physical purpose.

Novak’s are a huge Improvment over GI sights I’d argue also a better option for a carry gun then many older adjustables. The old colt elasion sights might as well be a razor blade. Not saying other options aren’t good. However there’s more then one way to skin a cat. They also offer a easy relatively affordable way to try various front and rear combos because they have a huge selection of styles.

ETA: I’m bouncing between Heinie and Novak for a government model.

Congrats man! Good shooting. Taking videos of your shooting will quickly let you realize where you're making wasted movement and what to work on.

I shot a local steel challenge match this weekend. Rocking the Glock 17, but shot against a bunch of 1911s and 2011s. Finished 5th in pistol overall. It's always fun beating the rimfire and PCC crowd with a handgun from the holster

I think sometimes my wife thinks it's narcissistic that I sit and watch myself shoot. I've picked myself apart in competition since my parents started recording me in karate tournaments when I was 6.

She's been a lifelong competitive swimmer and currently a coach so she does kinda understand.

I typically place a little lower because the normal top shooters all shoot high capacity 9mm guns with mrds. Yesterday it was a .45 match so they all shot iron sighted .45s. which is what I normally shoot.

Far from narcissistic, actually quite the opposite. It's the realization that we don't have it together and we're critiquing every little extra movement. It's helped me realize how much faster my times are taking that extra 0.2 seconds to get a good hit rather than missing. One of the guys that beat me, shot slower and had a slower draw, but dang, he hardly missed at all. That's what I want to achieve. I've consider only loading the minimum number of rounds as a training aid for that very reason.

That's cool that you guys have a dedicated 45 match. I would love that. Most guys at our local matches want to shoot tricked out 10/22s to get their times as low as possible. They all want to race and none of them want to practice. I enjoy it when people criticize that I'm using a SLS/ALS rig at these matches.

competition can be used for whatever the competitor wants it to be used for. I was shooting 3gun most seriously so I would shoot USPSA but score myself on 3gun rules to get an idea of what I wanted to accomplish there. My biggest increase in overall score was realizing it wasn't how fast I shot, it was how fast I did everything else. Having the gun already up as I hit a new position, moving reloads, minimizing transitions, and sometimes taking a longer "harder" shot was faster than running in close. That's the stuff the helped me get better overall, not split times and IG speed draw videos.

Yup, at the end of the second video you can see me take quite a bit of time, which I'm fine with because the only exposed target was the head box and I got both hits but I was way to close to the barrels and had to raise my gun around them for the last shot.

In my head I was trying to lean on it. Dummy, they're empty barrels.

I’m thinking he’s a righty he already does a ton with his right. Which if that’s a case he will likely get his pick of holsters. If he’s a lefty that just means he gets to pick and it’ll be new

Dad carried one it’s in the safe always had a soft spot for them. Saw it when I was picking up my boys first Christmas rifle and snagged it. I carried it a few times replaced all the springs and put it up. Decided since I’d be out I’d sight it in. Needs a new safety and I want to fit a flat bottom firing pin stop. It’s a lightened slide gun so that would likely go a long way to keeping it together.

Yours a lightened one also?

Mine definitely needs new springs. I cleaned/lubed it real well when I first received it and ran a few boxes through it. Factory mag was shot, but no malfunctions with Wilsons. It’s been sitting in the safe ever since. What do I look for to know if it is a lightened slide? Never heard of that before.

When you field strip it look at the slide from underneath lightened guns will look like this. Attachment Attached File

Left side is cut deeper, and the extractor is cut out and visible. If your gun is a wide trigger model which it should be. It’s extremely prudent to keep sear depressor springs on hand. And a qtip will help reassembly greatly. Also with lightened guns you need to run heavier recoil springs with standard ammo. That’s why the non-lightened ones come with 14 and 16# springs.

ETA: they were lightened for SWCs but not of the @03RN variety. IIRC standard was a 200gr at 800 or 185gr at 800ish

ETA: yours is a wide trigger and in my opinion those are the best of the breed. Assemble the sear, depressor, disconnect outside the gun insert Qtip shaft cut it flush then drop the assembly in then you push it out sliding the sear pin back in. Least that’s the best way I’ve found. Someplace I’ve got a slave pin I cut to do it with but normally q tips are in my range bag.

(ETA today's proof of life pic, taken after paying it off :)

An '80's era Combat Elite is in process of following me home (after the guvn'rs waiting period to make sure I'm not somehow going to use it inappropriately, any more so than the other ~87 revolvers or semiauto selfloading handguns I already have)   . and all I was doing was getting a haircut.

I thought I had missed out after the previous time I had seen it in that LGS, but it came up again yesterday.

I recently purchased a set of Lok grips and they are nice, but I don't care for the fact that the back of the grips ride at a weird angle relative to the backstrap. It's just an aesthetic issue.
