Especially the grips when you have some you like. You can really cut some of that price down though by going with someone other then Chin. $95 will get you a Smith and Alexander $75 will get you a EGW. What I didn’t think about was the then added desire to go well it’s easy enough to carry with this gun why not put them on the others as well. |

FWIW, I lusted after magwells for my CRG and my MCOP before I got my Specialist. After carrying/shooting it for a few years, I’ve considered removing the magwell altogether.
…Stan Chen makes one that requires a frame cut and adds no length at all to the grip. But $$$$$. |

Not saying other options aren’t good. However there’s more then one way to skin a cat. They also offer a easy relatively affordable way to try various front and rear combos because they have a huge selection of styles. It's the realization that we don't have it together and we're critiquing every little extra movement. It's helped me realize how much faster my times are taking that extra 0.2 seconds to get a good hit rather than missing. One of the guys that beat me, shot slower and had a slower draw, but dang, he hardly missed at all. That's what I want to achieve. I've consider only loading the minimum number of rounds as a training aid for that very reason. That's cool that you guys have a dedicated 45 match. I would love that. Most guys at our local matches want to shoot tricked out 10/22s to get their times as low as possible. They all want to race and none of them want to practice. I enjoy it when people criticize that I'm using a SLS/ALS rig at these matches. |

I was shooting 3gun most seriously so I would shoot USPSA but score myself on 3gun rules to get an idea of what I wanted to accomplish there. My biggest increase in overall score was realizing it wasn't how fast I shot, it was how fast I did everything else. Having the gun already up as I hit a new position, moving reloads, minimizing transitions, and sometimes taking a longer "harder" shot was faster than running in close. That's the stuff the helped me get better overall, not split times and IG speed draw videos. |

Yup, at the end of the second video you can see me take quite a bit of time, which I'm fine with because the only exposed target was the head box and I got both hits but I was way to close to the barrels and had to raise my gun around them for the last shot. In my head I was trying to lean on it. Dummy, they're empty barrels. |

It’s been sitting in the safe ever since. What do I look for to know if it is a lightened slide? Never heard of that before. When you field strip it look at the slide from underneath lightened guns will look like this. Attached File Left side is cut deeper, and the extractor is cut out and visible. If your gun is a wide trigger model which it should be. It’s extremely prudent to keep sear depressor springs on hand. And a qtip will help reassembly greatly. Also with lightened guns you need to run heavier recoil springs with standard ammo. That’s why the non-lightened ones come with 14 and 16# springs. ETA: they were lightened for SWCs but not of the @03RN variety. IIRC standard was a 200gr at 800 or 185gr at 800ish ETA: yours is a wide trigger and in my opinion those are the best of the breed. Assemble the sear, depressor, disconnect outside the gun insert Qtip shaft cut it flush then drop the assembly in then you push it out sliding the sear pin back in. Least that’s the best way I’ve found. Someplace I’ve got a slave pin I cut to do it with but normally q tips are in my range bag. |
