Well, I've been playing around with 1911 grips lately while waiting for my Pro Carry to come back from Tripp Research. First up is a set of VZs that came with the Pro Carry. My initial impression was pretty negative. The Pro Carry was pretty rough finish wise, and the grips were kind of dark. However, I really liked the way they felt when I took them to the range. So I took them off, applied a little Dawn and scrubbed them, then slapped them on my TLE. What an improvement!![]() ![]() Next up are a set of Alumagrips with our FDCC club logo laser etched into them by Conrad Berry of GunGrips.net. I've never experienced such fast service from anyone. I ordered my grips on Saturday. That afternoon, I received an e-mail showing what the grips would look like. Tuesday morning, they were at my house. These grips are really nice. They have a good, grippy texture, and they add some weight to the gun, which is good for me. Mr. Berry recommends cleaning them with Gun Scrubber, which is a testament to their durability in my opinion. I'm going to order another set in OD Green for another 1911 here shortly. ![]() and a closeup of the club logo... ![]() |

Ya know...I really am impressed with VZ's grip making ability, and he is a helluva nice guy, but I just cannot warm up to those "gatorback" slabs, or anything else he makes right now. I actually kinda feel bad about not supporting someone who supports all of us so well. If he would make some standard, sharp-checkered "diamond" 1911 grips, I would get a set in a heartbeat! Nice stocks! |
It's nothing too fancy, just a Kimber TLE/RL in stainless. When I first got it, there were not a whole lot of stainless TLEs out there, but now they are everywhere. The Kimber website even says they are going to put out rail options on most of their new models. |
