I am considering putting these on a commander. I was wondering what those that have them think.

I've used the Big Dots on a Colt Commander, a Sig, a Kel Tec, and an H&K, but it wasn't until I had the regular sized 24/7'S installed on my Wilson Millenium Protector that I really began to appreciate this sight system. I had them installed, and then a week later had a chance to squeeze into a CHL renewal class at the last minute. As a result, I never had a chance to get any range time with my new sights before the class, but decided to take the class anyway. I ended up shooting a 250 out of 250, which I credit to an exceptional 1911 plus a great sight setup.

For a defensive pistol sight system, I don't think you can do any better.

Are those the big dot or the standard?

I have the standard 24/7's on my Wilson, but here's a pic of the Commander that has the Big Dots. The excellent custom work on this Colt was done by Teddy Jacobson, Actions by "T".

I would avoid the XS “Big Dot” front sight or express sight systems like the plague. Pretty hard to make precision shots at distance when you front sight covers most of the target and has a round top. In close proximity the large fore sight may provide a quick reference but one will still be saddled with an inherent lack of precision due to the sights round top.

Yeah, knowing what I know now, I'd agree with that assessment of the Big Dots. I think that's what made such a big difference for me when I changed to the regular 24/7's (which obviously, I really like).

I probably should have been more clear, as my statement was directed at express sights in general not just the "big dots". On a pistol, a round top front sight just doesn't make any sense to me. YMMV...

Well, I don't think the sights are really designed for precision shooting. My impression is they are for close range human encounters.

I have a set on my G23 simply because I wanted to try them. For me they are no faster, even up close, but they definitely prevent accurate placement at any sort of speed at longer ranges. IMO a waste of time and money.

Agreed, but what happens when you need a precision shot or have an engagement that occurs outside of the preconceived and presumed distances?

The nice thing about “conventional” pistol sights is that they work well and consistently at any distance.

I really like them, I was going to have my smith change them before I even had a chance to try them out. He said to try them since this is my CCW weapon I might like them. Well I really do, very fast to get on target, and I have no trouble accuracy shooting.

Here's my CHL target from my requalification class. Again, I was pleased with my results since I didn't have a chance to practice with these sights before heading to the class. We fired 50 rounds from 3 or 5 yards (can't remember which), back to 15 yards. Could I replicate these results from 25 yards or so? Pretty unlikely, but then I guess I'm going with the preponderance of statistical eveidence that shows that if I'm involved in a defensive shooting, it will be within 20 feet or less.

Thumbs down.  Big or standard.  Just doesn't work for me.  I'll agree with IKOR.  No faster and less precise.

I've got them on a Kahr, where they make the most sense.

Pro: I like the BIG dot.  It really grabs your eye when you need to find it.

Con: Rear sight invites vertical stringing, as I have trouble lining it up consistently.

They are OK if you need to put the front sight on the bad guy quick, but not much good at anything else from my experiments.
