Planning to own a Marvel Conversion .22 1911 in the near future.
This particular conversion does not lock the slide back after the last round has been fired.

Does anyone know if dry firing a 1911 (or more specifically a Marvel conversion unit) is harmful?

to the best of my knowledge, dry firing a 1911  has  been known to be harmful to televisions ocassionally, but will not damage the weapon

Dry firing rimfires is a bad idea (the firing pin usually will hit the mouth of the chamber and raise a burr after a short time).  I have no experience with the Marvel, but I would assume this would be the case.

I agree centerfire dryfiring is ok, rimfire is a no no.

What you're NOT supposed to do on a 1911 is rack the without a round to chamber.

Dry firing is OK.

You can stick a pencil in the barrel and dry fire to make sure a weapon fires correctly(something everyone should do with a series II kimber).

I would agree except for the fact that he stated he's getting a .22 conversion. Do NOT dry fire a .22 rimfire.
