I am looking to get a 9mm 1911 soon and I am looking for something around $800.

Two obvious choices here are the SR1911 in 9mm with a 4.25'' barrel and the SA Range Officer Champion. This is going to be a carry gun but if whatever I get proves reliable it could end up being carried from time to time. I may shoot it some in IDPA as well. I want something that is 9+1 (or 10+1).

What do you think of these two options and do you have any other suggestions?

The Range Off. Is on my short list.  A 9mm 1911 is inevitable at this point for me.

Nighthawk made it great, but this Range Officer Operator was still pretty damned good before they even touched it.

I'd say a Rogers Precision but your budget needs to be quadrupled and then some for that, and good luck trying to get in line to have one being made by him

Out of your two options, my vote is for the SA Range Officer Champion.

I just purchased 3 Colt 9mm 1911s in the last few weeks. I have a number of threads here and in the General handgun forum about my experiences with them thus far. All of them were around $800. The Colt Competition 9mm 70 Series was $799. The LightWeight Commander 9mm (Alloy Frame) and Combat Commander (Steel Frame) were just over $800, but can easily be found for less.

My experiences have been very positive!

Here are some threads about my experiences with the 9mm Colt Pistols.

(This one has lots of updates throughout the thread as I acquired the pistols over a few weeks)
1911s..."It's the caliber stupid!"

Combat Commander 9mm (Steel Frame)

If you get the Colt Gov't Competition 9mm, make sure you get the 70 Series Model. It has the nice polished blue finished, vs last years 80 Series Model that has a matte blue/black finish. They did the 80 Series in 2016 and switched over to the 70 Series in 2017, and the finish switched as well.

I’ve been pretty happy with my Rock Island tactical. It’s the commander size with a rail. I keep making jokes because it’s been reliable and my STI’s have not.

Paid mid $350ish for it if I remember right but even new they are well within your budget. If you want to shoot competition with it make sure whatever you want falls within the rules. I was bummed that I can’t shoot mine in USPSA single stack because the rail is too long. Still a fun gun for steel.

The one thing i would caution you to check out on the ruger is the grip safety.
I've decided i don't like the scalloped way they do it.

Once in a great while i hang my thumb on it.
Only gripe i have about my railed version.

The Colt or Springfield, both are great guns.

I have a RO Champion in 9MM and its a keeper, put several different factory loads through it and it hasn't missed a beat, I also have the Compact RO 9MM that I can also vouch for, not sure how that would do in any matches though.

Might look for a used STI in 9mm on gunbroker, I have a duty one 4.0 and it is fantastic.

I had a Ruger SR1911 and currently have a Range Officer Operator. The RO is leaps and bounds better, hands down. I bought mine used for $550, 4 mags, looked brand new and the guy said he doesn't remember putting even a whole box through it lol. I threw on some VZ grips and a X300. I shoot it better than anything else I own.
