So I have been shooting my Colt Combat Commander for several months now and I really love the gun. It runs very good and has become my primary carry gun. However, I now find myself wanting the same gun but in 9mm. I was looking at the 9mm but went with .45 because that was how JMB intended it to be. Does anyone have a Commander in 9mm? How does it shoot. Should I get one? Talk me into or out of it.

1911's are an addiction, I have spent way too much on them. The 9's are awesome, that's all I carry and shoot now. I say doooo it!

Do you have a Colt Combat Commander in 9mm? Anyone else have one. Care to share experience with them. My .45 variant has bee a pleasure to own.

I've been looking for this support group.

It started with a couple Kimbers and now it's Wilson CQB, Les Baer UTC, Colt Series 70 Combat Government, Colt Series 80 NMGC, Series 70 NMGC, Series 80 chrome NMGC

Now I find myself lusting after WWI and WWII 1911s.

Not sure what happened, but I got bit.

Well...

You could argue the gun was really designed for 38 ACP and redesigned for 45 at the military's request.

Either way, 38 Super was also a "native" cartridge for the gun so don't feel to bad about wanting a 9mm

I have a government, commander and defender in 9mm and love them all. While the government wouldn't be my friend reference to carry I do carry the Defender in 9mm a lot.

Get it, you won't be sorry and they are very smooth shooters.

Or better yet, get a 38 Super!

I have 1911s in 45acp, 38 Super and 9mm.

A 1911 in 45acp is just..American. Nice push recoil, you will like launching 230grn bullets to your target and feel like you could stop a charging bull.

A 1911 in 38 Super, holds more ammo in the magazine than a 45acp, shoots flat, a lot less recoil than 45acp, feeds easily and is a joy to shoot. If you buy ammo for it but it online, much cheaper and greater selection.

A 1911 in 9mm you almost feel guilty about shooting it, hardly any recoil, cheap ammo, feels like your cheating because it is so easy to shoot.

Good mags for all three calibers always help. (Tripp or Wilson have been my go to mags for as long as I can remember).

I have a couple with 4.25" slides (commander)and 5" (government)slides.

The 4.25" is the way to go in a 9mm 1911.  5" feel sluggish and are less reliable in my experience.

Not a commander, but I spent the first half of the year with an STI 5" gun in 9mm. Decided to shoot Single Stack Nationals with a minor gun. Shot about 5k rounds Feb - May.

When it was over, I didn't want to put it down. I can say that in terms of raw fun (puts a shit-eating grin on your face), not necessarily the most competitive platform, but it was/is the most purely fun gun to shoot

Some of those show duplicates but I've added since then so it's probably representative.

Whatever you do don't buy a Les Baer or Dan Wesson. I bought a Valor, then sold a Mil-Spec, Operator, and Commander to fund a Specialist. A Les Baer is next on my list. Your bank account will hurt.

Yes, it's been a solid performer, there are a few minor things I don't like about it, but it's been 100% reliable. I own a bunch of 9mm 1911's, my favorites are my STI 1911's in 9. The STI's are super smooth, very accurate, and mine have been ridiculously reliable, dirty, dry, high round counts, they keep going and going. Not saying they are all like this, but mine have impressed me. I currently EDC one of them. Regardless, in 9mm, I prefer commander sized 1911's.

Like you I used to have several 1911 pistols in .45 ACP. I also decided I wanted something better. I sold all my .45 ACP 1911 pistols and bought 10mm 1911 pistols. 10mm is much more effective a cartridge than either 9mm or .45 ACP.

This is true.  I would find it impossible to buy a 1911 of lesser quality than I have enjoyed with my Dan Wesson.  It is a high, very high standard to match.

Not a commander, but last weekend I shot a Colt Competition 5" in 9mm. It was a really nice shooter, the recoil impulse was just pleasant.

Not a 9mm, but it is Les Baer...

I have always had a couple 1911s since I really got into shooting at a young age, but the last couple years I have been scooping up 1911s almost every chance I get, its a addiction no question.

My UTC and Valor's have really spoiled me on any other 1911. While the cheap ones most likely will function fine, they just feel, well cheap.
