Anyone know of a lightweight one piece or two piece magwell/mainspring housing?
I'm trying to find ways to shed some weight on my 5" 9mm 1911 for IDPA. Currently I am 42.77 ounces. Max is 43! Too close for comfort. I'd like to shed close to an ounce. Thanks! |

Probably easier to just test on a different scale as a second, independent check.
I have a 9mm STI Duty One. Got a Dawson Ice magwell. Did all my tinkering, got it to 42.6 with an empty mag. Shot Single Stack Nationals with it. Weighed in at 42.6 on the match scale. Easy-peasy |

I threw a fit they claimed their scale was fine etc etc I said I was going to challenge it and pay the $100.00 to do so according to the rule book. So after I was about half done writing my report etc. they came up and said "you really going to do this?" I said hell yes. They said "ok we going to take away the dq and throw away scale" Talked to an SO friend of mine that said they didn't have any way of calibrating their current scale etc. so they sided with me when I was going to "officially" complain. To top it off apparently they went through 2 dif chronos that day too lol. I could go on and on it was a shit show. So now I figure I'll lighten her up some more just to avoid this happening again in the future. Sucks because it was mid way through the match so I shot a hand full of stages being all fired up over it and thinking I wasn't shooting for score. Then they said I'm back in so I had to attempt to get my mind back in the game. I know I would have placed higher had this not happened. |

I'm not familiar with IDPA, but can you ask for a courtesy check before the match starts? If it helps, other things I did to ensure I made weight: tri-topped slide (added benefit of improved recoil characteristics) went from a steel FLGR to a GI-style Aluminum MSH I lucked into the last one, but I got a set of Tripp mags (had trouble with my Dawson Precision mags) right before nationals. The Tripps were more reliable and even weight ~0.1oz less |
