I have a bunch of guns, but for some reason I never picked up a 1911.

I'm pretty set on getting a TRP Operator, and have been thinking about getting a Delta Elite. I haven't seen too much on these other than the general gun rags that are in the business of promoting them. Does anyone have one or have shot one and have any recommendations? Its my understanding the 80's model has been upgraded now to better absorb the beating the 10mm gives.

Colt DE's were altered a long time ago it was termed enhanced, they put a cut in the frame above the slide stop to prevent frame cracking along with relieving the trigger guard at the grip.

What they kept was the two piece recoil spring and the plastic guide rod.

What I did is dump the two piece spring and the plastic guide rod, put  in a 22# wolf spring, GI guide rod and installed a flat bottom EGW firing pin stop.  That mitigates the recoil down to where a double tap isn't a a myth.

It's a good pistol.

ETA  What I posted applies to the older DE's I haven't handled the recently introduced version.

I've been looking at the Delta Elite for the past year.  Just saw the fact they were selling them with the new rail about six weeks ago.

Im getting closer and closer to getting one my self.

I just picked up a new Delta without the rail. All I plan on doing is fitting a Harrison flat-bottom firing pin stop to it and stocking up on factory springs and polymer guide rods. Everything I've read seems to indicate that Colt designed the polymer rod as a sacrificial part, designed to be replaced on a set interval, Essentially, you get the advantages of a recoil buffer without losing the extra slide travel.

So far, I've kept it stock and had no issues shooting off-the-shelf 10mm from the local gun shops and Underwood 180gr Sierra JHPs at 1250 fps. I don't expect any problems shooting SAAMI spec ammunition.

Sounds like you all like them.

Price hasn't gone down yet, I can only find at MSRP. I think you guys convinced me to get one (not too much convincing was needed though)

Well, you might want to look at Sig's 10mm TacOps 1911, which also has a rail. Comes with night sights and like, 4 magazines in the case, and is very robust.  Sadly, of course, it won't have a rampant Pony stamped on it.    Definitely a dad-gummer, but not necessarily a deal-breaker.  We all have to make frickin' do.
